Read between the lines kids, read between the lines.

Carl Levin, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said higher-income Americans should be taxed to pay for additional troops sent to Afghanistan and that NATO should provide half of the new soldiers.

An “additional income tax to the upper brackets, folks earning more than $200,000 or $250,000,” could fund more troops, Levin, a Michigan Democrat, said in an interview for Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital With Al Hunt,” airing this weekend. White House Budget Director Peter Orszag has estimated that each additional soldier in Afghanistan could cost $1 million, for a total that could reach $40 billion if 40,000 more troops are added.

That cost, Levin said, should be paid by wealthier taxpayers. “They have done incredibly well, and I think that it’s important that we pay for it if we possibly can” instead of increasing the federal debt load, the senator said.

Levin isn’t seriously considering passing a war tax on the wealthy. He is trying to scare wealthy taxpayers in hopes of reducing their support for the war. Levin opposes the war so he is making statements that, he hopes, well weaken support for it.

When Levin voted to spend $787 billion on stimulus pork, he didn’t threaten to raise taxes. The budget for Afghanistan he describes is about 5% of the stimulus boondoggle he supported. He is claiming that we need to raise taxes for the war but, of course, there was no need to raise taxes for his 2,000% stimulus budget.

The difference is that he wanted stimulus to pass with American support. In this case, he wants support for the war to diminish and, therefore, he is threatening supporters of the war with punitive taxes. Essentially, he is undermining the war effort.

Well, well, well… It would appear that the email server at Britain’s leading Climate Research Unit has been hacked and, surprise surprise, the climatologists therein are playing fast and loose with science. In fact, it would appear that many of these scientists are way more interested in politics than they are research and discovery. Not only do they expresse elation when a scientist who disagreed with their research died they happily collude to cover up scientific facts they don’t like because they proves them wrong.

Here is a sample of the fun….

Some of the most embarrassing e-mails are attributed to Philip Jones, the Director of the CRU; Keith Briffa, his assistant; Michael E. Mann of the University of Virginia; Malcolm Hughes at the University of Arizona; and others. One such e-mail makes references to the famous “hockey-stick” graph published by Mann in the journal Nature:

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values while the other two got April-Sept for NH land N of 20N. The latter two are real for 1999, while the estimate for 1999 for NH combined is +0.44C wrt 61-90. The Global estimate for 1999 with data through Oct is +0.35C cf. 0.57 for 1998.

More here.

As a bonus, here is Senator Inhofe telling Barbara “call me Senator” Boxer that on the subject of climate change, we one, she lost and to get a life.

A moment of fun here for Senator James Inhofe, who declared victory over the global-warming hysterics this week in a speech covered by the Tulsa World. Inhofe got a few laughs from a nearly-empty room by telling Barbara Boxer that the failure of the dire predictions of disaster from last decade to come to pass showed that he had been right all along, and that they could now “stick a fork” in the effort to hobble American productivity through the restriction of carbon emissions:

To Obama, however, they are objects to be used to highlight his wonderfulness. He can put on a game-face and say nice words but it is clear he sees them as nothing more than props for his stagecraft.

We have already established that global warming causes acne, camel deaths, an invasion of giant oysters, kidney stones, fashion disasters and and end to equal rights around the world. In addition to those horrors, you must now bear the burden of the knowledge that your Escalade is driving poor women to prostitution.

The effects of climate change have driven women in communities in coastal areas in poor countries like the Philippines into dangerous work, and sometimes even the flesh trade, a United Nations official said.

Suneeta Mukherjee, country representative of the United Nations Food Population Fund (UNFPA), said women in the Philippines are the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change in the country.

“Climate change could reduce income from farming and fishing, possibly driving some women into sex work and thereby increase HIV infection,” Mukherjee said during the Wednesday launch of the UNFPA annual State of World Population Report in Pasay City.

In the Philippines, small brothels usually pop up near the coastal areas where many women perform sexual services for transient seafarers. Often, these prostitutes are ferried to bigger ships by their pimps.

You and your carbon footprint! You might as well be pimping these women yourself! How in the hell do you sleep at night?

My Mother is a woman of many talents. Her oldest Son is a Convict and her youngest one is a Preacher. I try not to talk about him much because I don’t want to make life difficult for him for those times when he has to go looking for a job. By the Grace of God he has one now in a farming community in North Carolina.

The congregation at his new church is very much old school and my Brother is eight years younger than me, so he wondered if he would really be the right flavor. The older congregation has said that a younger Minister with his children was just what they needed to liven things up. The oldest of his children, my Nephew has taken an interest in farming and gets the opportunity to go to work in the fields with the men of his Church every day. It has been an incredible character building experience for a ten year old boy and he can’t get enough of it. Working the dirt is a spiritual experience that imparts many lessons.

Because the people of the congregation understand where the good fortune in their fields comes from, whenever harvest time comes the Preacher Man gets bushel after bushel of whatever folks who are stopping by bring to share with him. In a very short period of time his basement is full of harvest which his children are learning to store and preserve but the abundance is such that he has to find ways to give it away.

My Mother was recently visiting, spending time with her brand new Granddaughter. The recent harvest was Sweet Potato and she volunteered to haul as many of them as she could back to Florida to share with the congregation at her church. For the past several weeks now I have been getting bags of Sweet Potatoes every time I see her, but these are no ordinary Sweet Potatoes.

“I just couldn’t take some of these up to the Church. I got to looking at them and realized that they just looked too nasty to be giving away to church people”. I had no idea what my Mother was talking about. Sweet Potatoes grow in the dirt; all you have to do is wash them off. My Mother can sometimes phrase things strangely or act strangely and both were the case in this instance. “The worse part is knowing that Abby (her eight year old Granddaughter) was handling them when she bagged them up for me”.

By this time I was wondering just what horror awaited me when I got my first bag of Sweet Potatoes home. Upon opening the bag I was shocked at what my Mother found to be so nasty. Granted, in many instances I do see why some of the potatoes could become a source of conversation. Other of the potatoes that were deemed “Nasty” make me wonder if my Mother sees such nastiness in anything that remotely resembles anything that remains of her distant memories. I DO understand why she would be so upset about the fact that it was her Granddaughter who picked out the batch she took home with her. None of us want to envision my Niece as the stereotypical Preachers Daughter and this isn’t the first indicator that she is headed that way.

I can’t blog worth a damn from a motel room or on a laptop. Just can’t do it. This, then, explains the flat, watered down, skunk piss flavor of my posts over the last several days. I am back at it now, however, and my posts shall return to their normal, non-flat, non-watered down skunk piss flavor.

Let’s begin.

Make up post #1: The brass at Fort Bragg is worried that Sarah-cuda is going to whip the paratroopers ensconced there into an anti-CIC frenzy.

“If media are present, they can capture the imagery of what’s going and sort of the ambiance of what’s taking place,” he said.

Fort Bragg, which is base for some 35,000 soldiers, does not hold many promotional events, especially not with political figures. Officials said they worried that media coverage would turn the appearance into a chance for people to express political opinions “directed against the commander in chief.”

“The main reason is to stop this from turning into a political platform,” said Fort Bragg spokesman Tom McCollum. “There are Army regulations that basically prohibit military reservations from becoming political platforms by politicians.”

Palin has already agreed not to give a speech, McCollum said. Palin will sign her new book for people and will not stop to pose for photographs, officials said.

Having served as a young paratrooper at Fort Bragg, I can assure you that the command’s fears are not without foundation. Sarah will appeal to the troopers on, shall we say, more than one level.

Make up post #2: Harry Ried’s health care plan has a separate fee to cover your next abortion.

Beginning on line 7, p. 118, section 1303 under “Voluntary Choice of Coverage of Abortion Services” the Health and Human Services Secretary is given the authority to determine when abortion is allowed under the government-run health plan. Leader Reid’s plan also requires that at least one insurance plan offered in the Exchange covers abortions (line 13, p. 120).

What is even more alarming is that a monthly abortion premium will be charged of all enrollees in the government-run health plan.

A first trimester abortion in America cost about as much as parts and labor to replace the alternator on your car. If you alternator goes out, you pony up an pay the garage, right? Why are the Democrats so all fired determined to make sure that a procedure that is no more expensive than minor auto repair be covered? Shouldn’t a person be able to actually pay for what should be a once in a lifetime occurrence? Why the hell are the Democrats expending so much political capital on a process that is no worse a financial hit than buying new tires for a Sentra?

Make up post #3: Over at MSNBC, they a signinficant American social issue figured out. If you like Sarah Palin and you are white, you are a racist.

Much like mainstream media coverage of this year’s Tea Parties, Matthews and “Hardball” guests Norah O’Donnell and Salon’s Joan Walsh made an issue of how “white” the crowd was at a Palin book signing event in Michigan.

“This is a largely white — almost no minorities in this crowd,” reported MSNBC’s O’Donnell live from the scene.

Matthews reiterated, “Well, they look like a white crowd to me,” later claiming, “I think there is a tribal aspect to this thing, in other words, white vs. other people.”

Walsh added, “I think you`ve got that same kind of paranoid tea party, maybe even birther crowd that talks about the Constitution, without really understanding what they are talking about.”

Let’s just all agree that all white people are racist and the only way to be white and not racist, is to constantly accuse all other white people of being racist, okay?

Make up post #4: Here is a gratuitous photos ‘Gossip Girl’ stars Leighton Meester and Blake Lively and an ice cream cone on the April cover of ‘Rolling Stone.’

It’s just ice cream, right? It doesn’t make you think how pathetic and sad your life has become. It is just ice cream.

That’s all I got. I am going to bed.

The left constantly cried that Bush’s “cowboy diplomacy” and “arrogant” approach to foreign policy made America a terrible ally of European nations. Moonbats on both sides of the Atlantic assured us that, if the One was elected, everything in foreign relations wouldbe incense, peppermints and rainbow colored unicorns. It isn’t panning out that way at all…

“The astonishing disregard with which Mr Obama treats Britain has been made clear by his deliberations over the Afghan issue. As he decides how many more troops to send to Afghanistan — a decision which will fundamentally affect the scope of the mission — Britain is reduced to guesswork. The White House does not even pretend to portray this as a joint decision. It is a diplomatic cold-shouldering that stands in contrast not just to the Blair–Bush era, but to the togetherness of the soldiers on the ground… There will, though, inevitably come a time when Obama discovers who America’s true friends really are. Sooner or later he will have to deal with the considerably more taxing issues of Islamist militancy, rogue nuclear states and other tangible threats to the West’s security. At that point, Obama will discover a simple but essential truth. The world divides between those who support American values of freedom and democracy, and those who seek to destroy them. Few nations have been more committed to supporting those values with both blood and treasure than Britain. This country, and especially those British troops fighting alongside their American counterparts, deserve far better than this president’s disregard.”

Obama has been quite consistent in his policy of snubbing American friends while courting our traditional enemies. This policy is not only morally wrong, it will likely lead to the next international crises America faces being far more difficult that it had need be. We shall find that our lifelong friends see us now as a fair weather friend and will rightfully treat us as such when we need them most.

Just another day in the Obamanation.

Let’s see if I can thread this needle… We can’t try KSM in a military tribunal because he needs to be given a fair hearing in civilian court. It wouldn’t be right, you see, to deny him full access to a spirited defense, the presumption of innocence and the right to prove his innocence. When we are through with that we will kill him.

Americans who are troubled by the decision to send alleged Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York for trial will feel better about it when he’s put to death, President Barack Obama said Wednesday.

During a round of network television interviews conducted during Obama’s visit to China, the president was asked about those who find it offensive that Mohammed will receive all the rights normally accorded to U.S. citizens when they are charged with a crime.

“I don’t think it will be offensive at all when he’s convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him,” Obama told NBC’s Chuck Todd.

When Todd asked Obama if he was interfering in the trial process by declaring that Mohammed will be executed, Obama, a former constitutional law professor, insisted that he wasn’t trying to dictate the result.

Obama is essentially arguing that KSM must by given a fair trial in civilian court with the presumption of innocence so the world will see America for the just nation it is. He is also saying that KSM is already a dead man walking and that, while a military tribunal would be a breach of justice, declaring him guilty and as good as dead and his trial a formality is just fine.

Andy McCarthy explains in detail the many ways Eric Holder, when discussing a civilian trial for KSM, is talking out his ass. Here is a representative sample.

5. A civilian trial is no more a platform for KSM than a military commission would have been. That’s ridiculous. KSM was ready to plead guilty and be executed eleven months ago. Whatever soapbox he was going to have, he’d largely already had, and while we’d have had to let him speak before sentence was imposed, that would have been the end of it. Now, he’s going to get a full-blown trial — after combing through the discovery for a couple of years and after putting the Bush administration under the spotlight.

Holder derided Senator Kyl for pointing this out, saying Kyl had no way of knowing what KSM’s position is today. That’s a specious point. We do know what his position was eleven months ago when the Obama administration could have accepted his plea and pushed for his execution. Moreover, why would that still be KSM’s position today, when he now knows Holder is ready to give him the stage in New York that he’s been seeking since the day he was captured?
