CDC Study not what Obama was hoping for…

You may recall that one of Obama’s executive orders following the shooting at Newtown was to authorize and provide funds for the CDC to conduct studies on the effects of guns on public health. The results are in. Obama did not get what he was fishing for.

1 ) The vast majority of gun deaths are due to suicides, not criminal violence.

2 ) The defensive use of guns is a common occurrence.

3 ) Accidental gun deaths have been decreasing for years.

4 ) Mass shootings are becoming less common.

5 ) Buy-back programs are “ineffective”.

6 ) Criminals seldom get guns from gun shops or gun shows.

7 ) Exclude Illinois, California, New Jersey and Washington, DC, the homicide rate in the United States would be in line with Europe.

8 ) There was insufficient evidence to draw conclusions on the effectiveness of any of the following.

Bans on specified firearms or ammunition,
    Restrictions on firearm acquisition,
    Waiting periods for firearm acquisition,
Firearm registration and licensing of owners, and
Zero tolerance for firearms in schools.

In other words, Obama dropped his bucket down a dry well.
