Andy and Barney never did it this way..

About once a year some hoods would come to Mayberry and try to rob the bank or something. Andy and Barney never beat them unconscious. I surely don’t remember them beating down Otis, even when he resisted arrest.

Officers from Hawthorne Police Department in California twice Tasered a man who was trying to sign to them that he was deaf, a lawsuit allegees.

The officers then beat the deaf man until he was unconscious and then charged him with assault.

A federal complaint has since been filed against the police department for violating Jonathan Meister’s rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. According to the complaint, Miester says the cops ”shot Taser darts into Mr. Meister, administered a number of painful electric shocks, struck him with fists and feet, and forcibly took him to the ground.”

The complaint names officers Jeffrey Salmon, Jeffrey Tysl, Erica Bristow and Mark Hultgren as defendants, but also names the City of Hawthorne, its Police Department and Police Chief Robert Fager in the lawsuit.

Sometimes I get nostalgic for the days when multiple police officers were able to detain a non-violent suspect without hitting him with 20,000 volts and beating him unconscious.

Why is it the law does not allow police to be charged with assault?
The way it’s supposed to be is police have rules of conduct, and when they step outside them, they are no longer afforded protected status.

I doubt that a beating and tasing because he is deaf feels any different than a beating and tasing because the cops have gone wild. Yes, the victim was deaf, but it could have been anyone who was using sign language.

The damned cops are just a little too quick to whip out the TAZER for me. The bastards use it even when they know the subject is no threat, and that it could cause harm. We read at leas once a week where someone died after being tazed. How come we can’t get these idiots charged with abuse of authority. Oh yeah, the tazed subject is a White drunk and we have eric holder for chief law enforcer.

Are you kidding? The Cops showed remarkable restraint..

Normally they would have rolled up, about 7 of them would have jumped out the back and they would have simply shot him numerous times..
If it was New York.. they would have gunned down 6 or 7 civilians for good measure… then charged him with their shootings.
