Great Idea: “DOD aims to scrap A-10 to keep F-35 alive in new budget”

The A-10 is an airplane designed around the 30mm Gatling gun in its nose. Ground troops love the support it provides. This is one more example of the incompetence of Obama’s Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel.

Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is unveiling the Pentagon’s proposed budget today—a budget that will dramatically scale back the size of the military. But in order to save the most sacred of cows in its ongoing modernization efforts, the Pentagon is proposing the elimination of what has arguably been the most effective combat aircraft in the Air Force’s inventory: the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

Known for its survivability, the A-10 is capable of flying with half a wing, one tail fin, one elevator, and one engine torn off.”

The A-10 has long been one of my favorite aircrafts.

This is just one of many, many attempts by the AF to kill the legendary aircraft. It’s gone through as many budgetary battles as ground attack battles. I hope they find some money to keep it in the air, even if it transfers to the Army.

I worked A-10′s. What a great airplane. Chuck Hagel’s a fool. Ask any of our Marines on the ground, they’ll tell you that the Warthog is a f-king lifesaver and definite force multiplier.

That’s what I heard from the jarheads – as a justification for Air Force existence – more than anything else. The C-130 gunship and the A-10 have saved more Marines than penicillin.

Oh, it looks like – from the non-moving video platform – that the hajjibits video is from an PTDS. I may be wrong, but most jet videos have a moving frame of reference because they can’t hover (except that useless gay Marine jet).

Even on the Apaches alltv, you can still tell it’s moving, even though the focus is locked.

Didn’t these guys pretty much waste Hussein’s targets in Desert Storm 1, and the M1-A’s cleanup the trash?
