We just got back from Europe and met several people from Israel. One woman was vacationing with her daughter and could not return (flights suspended) while another family was going to stay in Italy with family members as Israel deemed (rightfully) as too dangerous.

I think Israel tourism industry is taking a brutal beating right now.

I’ve always wanted to visit the Holy Land, but mostly for the history and archeology rather than the religious significance. If I want to see the sites, I’m going to have to go soon as Hamas and Fatah and busy destroying every archeological site they can find to prevent any interpretation that might point to any Jewish existence prior to 1947.

I would go with Wild Bill. Our church is setting up a trip in late spring, 2015. Some of the older folks are not too keen on the timing just yet. I know, there are really people older than me, Nota.

I view the danger in Israel as I view the danger in Mexico or Chicago, New York, etc. It is not safe. Nothing is safe. There are places you can go and there are places you should stay away from. There are activities you should surely avoid – don’t get involved in the drug trad or other traditionally violent crime. Stay out of industrial areas at night. Stay aware of what is going on and where. Avoid the troubled areas.

There are wonderful things to see in Israel and Mexico. Not so sure about Chicago and New York.
