Friday Night at the Movies – The last man on Earth

Welcome one and all to the cinematic oasis we have been looking forward to finding all week. This has been an interesting week in so many ways but we don’t want to think about any of that right now. Nonetheless I did look for a good riot movie just for giggles but all I could find was prison riot movies. They are great movies to watch except when there’s riots going on in the streets. A prison riot movie would leave the audience feeling cheated because the riot was contained within a correctional facility. You don’t get that same… burn baby burn feeling.

Oh well, I did end up finding something decent in spite of myself. I’ve never seen it either. I can’t do a fancy schmancy write-up here. I went looking for Omega Man and ended up finding the movie that inspired Omega Man as well as I am Legend. The lead character is played by Vincent Price. This just sounds too good to pass up.

Obviously our lead character is the ultimate survivalist. Hey, he’s the last man on Earth. He’s the last man standing. Who is going to challenge his status? Imagine how much fun you could have if you were the last man on Earth. Think of all the places you could go see without having to stand in line. Think of all the Banks you could rob. Just for kicks you could mail yourself a letter, claiming to be from the IRS, informing you of an audit. Probably the biggest drawback of being the last man on Earth would be due to the lack of flushing toilets.

Speaking of Vincent Price… Halloween is only 77 Days away. I will be stepping up my game in a major way this year. More fluorescent black light fixtures, dot wall illusion going down the driveway, animatronics. It falls on a Friday this year and I’ve taken the day off. This will be year one of two when it falls on a weekend. There will be more kids. It will go on until late. It’s gonna be crazy.

As was the case last week I find canned Spam, canned cheese and Tequila as probably the most appropriate in-flight snack and beverage selection for our flight. Our destination is one that I haven’t figured out yet because I haven’t watched it but the Year is 1965. Fasten your safety belts, this is gonna be a good ‘un.

He’s the last man on Earth…

Hoi! Thanks for the reminder, I’ve yet to get some EL Light strings for my daughter’s costume this year.
Vincent Price, what an entertainer to a kid on a Saurday night with Lon Chaney and the other greats. Creature Feature was always great.

    Other jewels with Vincent Price.
The Fall of the House of Usher
    The Pit and the Pendulum
The Tingler, as good as the Blob with a very young Steve McQueen.
