Tell your children to get government jobs

The state of Iowa – a smallish state – has almost 4,000 employees making more that $100,000 per year. The cost of living in Iowa is low. These jobs are eminently secure, include guaranteed pay raises, outstanding benefits and pension plans. Iowa is very conservative in this area, other states and the federal government will be even better.
Don’t let your child grow up to be a sucker working in the private sector subject to the law of the jungle. Why be a serf when you can have the serfs serve you? The rules have changed. Tell them to get a secure, well paid government job that is not subject to market forces.
Remind them each and every day: in the New Order, the best path to wealth, comfort and ease is as a member of the American Brahman class. Get a government job! Creating wealth is for suckers. Be a consumer of wealth. Get a government job! Don’t let the business cycle worry you. Get a government job! The retirement plans of the masses may collapse, but the government can just collect more for you in your old age. Get a government job! The private sector is becoming heavily regulated so be a regulator not a regulatee. Get a government job. Repeat it every day. Get a government job!

I have seen this in action. In Mexico there are the tremendously rich – the ruling class – and the very poor. Minimum wage in Mexico is about US $5 per DAY. In between there is a small middle class. It’s made up of small business people, but mostly of government employees.
As it is in many union towns the best-paying jobs go to relatives and friends of those who already have government jobs.
The electric company is owned by the federal government. There is only one source of gasoline and diesel – Pemex. Federal. It goes on.
The difference in income between the average worker and the government worker is dramatic. Income taxes are higher than we in the US can imagine and there is a 15% VAT (in effect a national sales tax). Because of the high taxes there is universal tax cheating.
There is universal health care via the IMSS, but the people only qualify for it if they are employed by an employer who makes the IMSS payments. Unemployed workers, or those who work under the table, are not covered. And, the workers say that the quality of the medical care under the IMSS is terrible.
This, and more, is what we have to look forward to in America.

Of course you know what comes with a government like that. Patronage, corruption, payola and deep, dark ugliness.

We will get both the hot and the ugly. The hot ones will marry the men with government jobs.
