Two tales from one City

Let’s see if Real Revo Readers are able to determine how these stories are related…

Jacksonville, Florida near the bottom of the list of safest cities

One killed & three injured in 3-Alarm Fire yesterday

HINT: The tie that binds has nothing to do with fire safety.

I know what the moral is for the second story; Fire is like government. Useful in the fireplace but left unchecked it will consume everything you own.

And it is interesting that the crime rate in Jacksonville has suddenly and dramatically dropped in the last nine months. At least according to the comment by Don utler in the story. Is he implying that Obama’s policies are reducing crime?

Good points BMan, however I believe any drop in crime (not detectable by locals) would be due to low sun spot activity that induced cooler temperatures throughout typically hot weather months.

Second Hint – “The fire call went out just before 1 p.m. When firefighters arrived, flames were already burning through the roof and people were dangling from second-story windows, desperate to get out of the burning building”.

“They were rescuing people … out of the windows with ladders,” one witness said. “Pretty intense.”

QUESTION: If you are dangling from a second story window, what is the approximate distance between your feet and the ground?

Second Question – Why were so many people at home at 1pm so they could dangle out the second story windows and await rescue?

(This happened only a few blocks from where I worked and I got to watch a good bit of it)

Third question- How long did it take for firefighters to get there if the apartment was already engulfed in flames? And, what was the apartment complex made out of? Im thinking either particle board or balsa wood. Each are highly flammable. Perhaps to curb global warming and lighten our carbon footprint, regulations forced the developers to use recycled wood to save a tree or two.

These are old 1950′s era cinder block constructed buildings. There was a loud explosion and the fire took off quickly from there. We probably witnessed a Meth Lab explosion yesterday. That would be an additional tie that binds the two seperate stories.

The tie that I believe binds the stories has to do with people who could have easily rescued themselves from the astounding altitude of 10 feet above ground level, chose instead to await rescue rather than jump. People who become accustomed to having others provide for their survival needs lose all sense of preserving their own lives. Here is another example…

Imagine what life in big cities will be like when the government teet dries up.

I wondered why people had to be ladder rescued from the second floor. Good observation Brad.
