Obama hopes the violence in Iran doesn’t spread.

The White House is calling for an end to violence in Iran as security forces there crack down on anti-government protesters.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said Wednesday that Obama administration leaders are following reports of the unrest and “hope greatly that violence will not spread.”

In Tehran, Iranian security forces beat anti-government protesters with batons Wednesday on the sidelines of state-sanctioned rallies to mark the 30th anniversary of the U.S. Embassy takeover. The counter-demonstrations were the opposition’s first major show of force on Tehran’s streets in nearly two months.

Wouldn’t the collapse of the anti-American regime in Iran be a good thing? Doesn’t it make sense to support the protesters? Shouldn’t it be the policy of the United States to be pouring gasoline on that fire in the hope that is spreads far and wide? Does the Obama Administration want Iran to get nuclear weapons? I mean seriously, how fucking clueless can these guys get?

Update:“OBAMA, OBAMA! ARE YOU WITH THE REGIME OR US?

I think the answer is clear. Obama screwed them once and he will again.

When you look at the Iranian economy, demographics, society it bears so many similarities to the Soviet Union in the 1980’s. In terms that it’s clear it’s on the verge of collapse. Yet, Obama & Co. are intent on breathing life back into the Iranian regime allowing it to come back stronger. This is an amazing opportunity to take advantage of this dissention, yet President HopeNGrovel will do anything to legitimize the regime.

Perhaps the saner Persians are now realizing that their govt. is hurdling towards suicidal conflict with Israel. I found these quotes very telling…

“…a leading reformist cleric and architect of the Islamic Revolution issued a provocative statement describing the storming of the U.S. mission in Tehran as a mistake.

“Considering the negative repercussions and the high sensitivity which was created among the American people and which still exists, it was not the right thing to do,” Ayatollah Hossein Montazeri said in a statement posted to his website.

And as thousands of government supporters and schoolchildren draped in Iranian flags chanted, “Death to America,” opposition protesters warned the Obama administration — which is seeking to engage Iran to defuse a confrontation over Tehran’s nuclear program — that now’s not the time for a deal.

“Obama, Obama!” the protesters chanted, according to footage posted on the Internet. “Either you’re with them, or with us.”

Opportunities to undermine a regime internally vis-a-vis their own people don’t happen often. It’s amazing and depressing that Obama is intent on squandering this opportunity.

When attempting to plumb the depths of “fucking clueless”, one finds a never-ending series of caves and passageways which lead on… almost infinitely until one gives up and resigns himself to the fact that he will never reach the end.

Hope is not a Strategy. I am embarrassed to be a part of a society that votes for Hope.

Jim, he can’t be bothered to pay attention to Iran, he’s busy trying to undermine the legitimate government of Honduras. And ignoring Afghanistan.
Who would ever have thought that a democrat would lecture another country about “corruption”? Perhaps, he should send Al Franken to advise Karzai on what to do?

Maybe this is the hope that we voted for. We hope that the bad guys will stop doing what they’re doing if we get upset enough at them. :(

Actually, UpNorth, I thought Obama was busy successfully undermining our economy while ignoring other problems. The truth is that the protesters are a mere inconvenience for Obama. He’s going to sign his ‘Munich Agreement’ with Iran sooner or later, damn the consequences. I’m sure he’s wondering ‘why those damn protesters don’t just go away. They’re getting in the way of MY plans…’ Obama is a type of sociopath. The sooner he can undermine America’s standing in the world and damage its relationships with its allies, the sooner he can focus on undermining the US’s economy, society, and political system.
