Trained soldiers as sitting ducks

DuckAndCover

This morning a life-long civilian asked me how the Fort Hood shooter could have killed and wounded so many people on a military base. “After all,” she asked, “isn’t it full of trained people with weapons?”

I explained to her that it is full of trained people but the weapons are all locked up. The sad reality is that the shooter was able to pick off soldiers like birds on a wire because they were unarmed and unable to defend themselves. Fort Hood is effectively a gun-free zone. Ironically, if he would have tried his killing spree outside the base gates in Killeen, there would have been any number of civilians and military members with weapons to return fire. The people of Fort Hood were as vulnerable as the victims of the spree killer at Virgina Tech, another gun free zone.

Had a handgun toting jihadi in Iraq would have tried an “allu akbar” killing spree against those same soldiers, he would have been deader than fried chicken almost instantly. In America, however, the soldiers are sitting ducks. The shooter was shot by a female civilian first responder while combat experienced men could do nothing but duck, run and die. The federal government’s anti-gun bias is inexcusable.

By the way, the Israelis aren’t so squeamish about, you know, letting soldiers carry weapons.

And all the Homegrown training camp freaks are watching and taking notes on vulnerable spots. Seems like the folks in charge are giving too much info. We’d all like some answers, but the nuts are learning something from every answer they give.
May God’s grace, mercy and comfort be with all the families affected by this. My prayers are for you today.

Experts agree: gun free zones work… just ask Hasan, or kliebold/harris, or one hung lo from Virginia Tech…

The collective antipathy in this country toward the ever-increasing encroachment on our basic civil liberties makes me wanna vomit. How long before we wake the fuck up, completely?

When we wake up dead, that’s when.

Nope. Everybody here is awake. People who choose to sleep do so at their own peril. Anyone who obeys Laws that endanger their lives are suicidal. Exercize your God-given Rights regardless of the arrangements of usesless words on paper that are of no use to you when the bullets are flying. The only Law that matters was given to Moses.

In the wake of Ft. Hood, I spent an hour or so on the range this morning.

Close-quarter drill with the Glock 19 and the Bersa Thunder; not quite as pretty a pattern as I would have liked, but would have gotten the job done.

Tried out the .40 Glock, too, and that has a certain reassuring stopping power to it (per the giant phone book being used as a target).

Yesterday’s news along with the shooting in florida today just confirmed the point that my CCW is sort of like a seat belt; you have to a) have one, and b)buckle it (carry) because you can’t plan in advance for a tragedy.

    –sigh–
