From the Obamacare beachhead, there is no retreat
November 8, 2009
When Hernán Cortés invaded the Aztec Empire in July 1519, he famously scuttled the ships on which he brought his conquistadors to Mexico. He wanted to make sure there would be no retreat or even thought of retreat by his men. Once committed to the conquest of Mexico, Cortés would allow no other outcome. There was no going back.
The Democrats, in their quest for single payer, universal health care have adopted the strategy of Cortés. They need only to establish a health care reform beachhead and they will burn the ships. Once a beachhead is established, there will be no retreat.
The Democrats need only get a health car bill passed and signed. The details don’t much matter as they can be changed later. In fact, the lack of interest by congressional representatives in the details of the House Bill is based on how little the details matter. All that really matters is that Obama sign a bill that can be changed and modified and, eventually transformed into the single payer, socialized system they plan to implement.
Once socialized medicine is established, there will be no turning back. The ships will have been burned and the only way to go will be forward. Incremental changes will be made. Little by little, year after year, new features and functionality will be added until, one day, we will all be dependent on a single payer, socialist medical system.
At the point the compact between citizens and the government will be forever changed. You will be dependent on one, single source of health care. When you are at your most vulnerable, most in need, you will be dependent on the Leviathan. You will have no other option for your desperate need. If, for any reason the Leviathan denies you, you will have nowhere else to turn. You will always be careful not to offend the entity that controls your health care.
This is the goal of the Democrats and they are battling for that beachhead. If they can only pass a bill, any bill, they will have established a Obamacare beachhead. At that point, the ships will be burned and we will be committed to socialized medicine with no hope of retreat.

These people are wired so differently from me, I can’t understand what motivates them.
I can understand the simple part: power, control. I don’t understand the ideology of not leaving people alone, or destroying the country. I’ll have to accept John Milton’s Paradise Lost quote.
I’ve seen actions people have taken, and asked myself “Is this person really that stupid? This is so obvious.” It was always puzzling to me. Now, in my late 40′s, I’ve accepted Occam’s razor: Yes, these people really are that stupid. I accept some people really are evil.
I don’t think most Americans realize or understand what’s in office.
Maybe R.D. has opinions.

I have really tried to reconcile my thoughts to the way of the liberal, and I just can’t make it happen. I just can’t see how they think that way.

The Wall Street Journal makes the same argument about Obamacare establishing a beachhead and burning the ships.
