Free Speech = Hate Speech

Just another example in a long line of ‘liberal tolerance’. This ‘politically correct’ thing is spinning way, way out of control.
Reader’s Digest Version: Lesbian co-worker blathers on and on about her pending nuptials, trolling for acceptance and affirmations from her male Christian Conservative co-worker. Finally, he says “homosexuality is wrong.”
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Citing his behavior as “intolerant, unprofessional and harassment” Brookstone Stores fired the guy. Because he expressed his opinion. Apparently, the HR department at Brookstone has written a policy whereby you can feel free to drag your personal life into the work place, chat it up with anyone and everyone, put it on display, solicit commentary about the same, but woe to the person that actually comments on it. Unless, of course, those are supportive comments.
Woman: “Hey, I’m gay! Isn’t that great! I just can’t wait to fly to Iowa to get hitched to my lesbian lover. We are sooooooo happy! Happy, Happy, Happy. By the way, did I tell you I was gay? And that I’m getting married? And that I’m sooooo happy?”
Man: “Homosexuality is wrong and a sin.”
Woman: “WHAAAAAT? You hatefully hating hate-hater! You just violated my rights! I feel oppressed! I feel discriminated against! How dare you make such a comment about my personal, private life that I’ve been talking about publicly for the last 2 hours here at work. You’re in big trouble, buddy.”
I think Brookstone should stick to making those little, over-priced gadgety-things that always run out of batteries. This freedom of speech stuff is a bit too heady for them.
Keep in mind, readers, that this guy did not threaten her, or subject her to his unsolicited opinions, or mock her. He did not say he ‘hated her’ or that he wished her any harm. All he did was disagree with her position and expressed his personal opinions in the context of a conversation he neither initiated nor perpetuated.
Now, here’s the scenario that I REALLY want to see. It would have to rank it in the top 10 liberal tolerance-loving conundrums:
Same scenario as above, but replace the Christian Conservative guy with a devout Muslim.
Hmmmmmm. Now which group do we appease and kowtow to? The gays, or the Muslims? Can’t fire the Muslim guy for expressing his religious beliefs — that would be profiling and foster an anti-Muslim sentiment. On the other hand, we can’t let the gay lifestyle be slighted or offend the sensibilities of the uber-liberal gay caucus.
Decisions, decisions.

“Now which group do we appease and kowtow to?”
The rules of the Diversity Cult are not subject to the logic of old, dead white men. It is a free flowing give and take. In your scenario, the solution would be to reassign the lesbian and the Muslim out of respect for their differing but mutually valuable perspectives… then fire their Caucasian male supervisor.
Problem solved and everyone is happy.

Right here in New York. Just think, the liberal Democrats want to give these Muslim morons healthcare paid for by all U.S. taxpayers while they are preaching hate on our own soil.

Great conundrum! Though, few & far between, there are a few judges with sense out there. Amazing that one of these cases was decided in San Francisco!

The Muslim would be kowtowed to. Any business that is ultra PC has no back bone and will always side with the Muslims. While gays might get indignant, the Muslims may get violent and a business that has no sense of what is right or wrong, only what is PC, the possible threat of violence will determine who’s side they stand on.
I know that sounds really simplistic, I just think most people choose the path of least resistance, while when walking in the woods that is a good idea, navigating through live not so much. Life puts choices to us and some times the hard choice is the right one.
Even the director (an openly gay man) of the new movie “2012″, decided against blowing up any Islamic landmarks in the movie because of the possibility of a violent backlash against him from the Muslims. So much for his creative license, it only applies to Christian landmarks.
Moderate Muslims are even afraid of their fellow radical Muslims and rarely will speak out against their behavior.
The perceived threat of violence can be powerful.
