I’m going rogue too

going-rogue

A major story of the 2008 presidential campaign was that one of the candidates was profoundly inexperienced and virtually unknown until very recently. The candidate in question was chosen largely on sex appeal becuase of the cult-like following developing in the party base. Many throughout the country wondered how a major party would allow this a silly naif on its presidential ticket when there were so very many better choices. Had experience and serious leadership skills become necessary in presidential politics? Despite a thin resume and few qualifications, Barack Obama was nominated as candidate for president by the Democratic Party.

Another story from the campaign was the choice of Sarah Palin as the Republican Party’s candidate for Vice President. You know the story; it continues to this day. Palin is a lightning rod for the left. She has become a litmus test in the culture war. In order to be am accepted member of the sophisticated and cosmopolitan, American Brahman class, you must shake your head and proclaim your utter disdain for this Alaskan rube. Show any acceptance of or, God forbid, support for her role in our public life and you may forget your dreams of a listing in the Social Register. You shall be consigned to the ranks of the gun and religion clinging hillbillies of fly-over country.

The New York Times has this to say about Palin’s new book.

Mr. McCain’s astonishing decision to pick someone with so little experience (less than two years as the governor of Alaska, and before that, two terms as mayor of Wasilla, a town with fewer than 7,000 residents) as his running mate and Ms. Palin’s own surprisingly nonchalant reaction to Mr. McCain’s initial phone call about the vice president’s slot (she writes that it felt “like a natural progression”) underscore just how alarmingly expertise is discounted — or equated with elitism — in our increasingly democratized era, and just how thoroughly colorful personal narratives overshadow policy arguments and actual knowledge.

They fail to point out that Palin, as vice president candidate, had infinitely more executive leadership experience than did Obama; the Democratic PRESIDENTIAL candidate. The resulting election of the naif from Chicago has America suffering through this nation’s first “American Idol” presidency. A presidency based on the stage appeal and skills in the performing arts and little else is our current lot.

I like Sarah… a lot. There is very little about her politics or her life than I find unappealing. Furthermore, I am proud to be a fan and a supporter.

There. I said it. I have likely earned a permanent moratorium on receiving invitations to Upper East Side cocktail parties and Georgetown teas. Oh well. I am pretty happy out here clinging to guns and religion anyway.

“They fail to point out that Palin, as vice president candidate, had infinitely more executive leadership experience than did Obama; the Democratic PRESIDENTIAL candidate.*”

    * And without the disturbing links to numerous left-wing bigots and corrupt Chicago politicians.

Just a thought experiment comparing left-wing analogs to their right-wing counterparts; If Palin had as many right-wing extremists in her background as Barack Obama has left-wing ideologues in his, she’d make David Duke seem like a peace living hippie. Yet, she doesn’t have any of these associations all the while Obama does have them in his social and professional circles.

Try and find the right-wing analog to Obama’s Raila Odinga, Rev. Wrong, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorhn, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein, Khalid Al-Mansour, John Holdren, Anita Dunn, Rashid Khalidi, et al. and you’ll see how bizarre a life Obama has led.

The tragic part is that even if you could make people see how disturbing Obama & Co. are, they still wouldn’t believe you. They just couldn’t wrap their minds around the concept. Perhaps it’s a testament to how bad American education is when Americans can not objectively see that leftist ideologies have caused more misery than right-wing ideologies.

    Pray for this nation.

I like her too. I am a fan of politicians that shoot straight … on the range and on the job.

I almost forgot to add that I admire Sarah Palin tremendously. She’s self made and a Alpha female.

No wonder why the communists fear her. She didn’t go to their schools.

Sarah Palin doesn’t strike me as compulsive liar, unlike the current guy in charge.

Sarah is scaring hell out of the left. The evidence of that is the unending expressions of hatred and disdain coming from them. She is the real deal – as much as can be found in today’s America. She doesn’t need to lie or fake.

My favorite quote about her came from her father when asked about her resignation from the governorship:, “She’s not retreating. She’s reloading”.

    Go, Sarah!

Sarah Palin has credibility on the very path that has the potential to lead the US back to top spot in the world.

Energy independence, including use of natural gas, oil, coal, uranium, wind, solar, hydro and geothermal, is “the big ticket” for Americans.

Jobs will follow the pursuit of energy independence. Not “green” jobs, but real jobs.

Security will follow the pursuit of energy independence. Not “argue about it security” centered on the Middle East, but “we can provide for ourselves” so move on!

Deficits will narrow considerably (if the current Congress can be kept at bay) as all of those energy dollars are generated within the US and turn into fees, taxes, etc. that our governments suck in.

Our “planet” will be considerably better off with the responsible recovery of energy versus places like Russia, Venezuela or the Middle East. Don’t believe me about standards of practice? Then go visit for a week.

We have everything we need to succeed, except the leadership committed to executing a plan. That leadership has to harken back to simple ideas, such as providing for your own needs.

Sarah Palin may not be the politician that finally campaigns on these issues, but the first politician to tell folks to drill, to build nukes, to convert to gas, to invest in wind…to do it all and not just the politically correct ones…that will resonate.
