USMC nude photo sharing scandal spreads to all branches

It’s not just the Marines anymore.

The practice of sharing such photos goes beyond the Marine Corps and one Facebook group. Hundreds of nude photos of female service members from every military branch have been posted to an image-sharing message board that dates back to at least May. A source informed Business Insider of the site’s existence on Tuesday.

The site, called AnonIB, has a dedicated board for military personnel that features dozens of threaded conversations among men, many of whom ask for “wins” β€” naked photographs β€” of specific female service members, often identifying the women by name or where they are stationed.

The revelation comes on the heels of an explosive story published on Saturday by the journalist Thomas Brennan. He reported on a Facebook group called Marines United, which was home to approximately 30,000 members who were sharing nude photos of colleagues along with personal information and even encouragement of sexual assault.

So let me get this straight. This report seems to suggest that large groups of young men and women in their teens and twenties, when placed in close proximity, have a tendency to become hormone charged, sexually libertine and prone to engage in wanton jackassery.

Why, this is shocking. Who would have ever seen this coming?

I can say for absolute certainty that, when I was in the 82nd, nobody took any nude photos of the chicks in my unit. How do I know for certain? There were no chicks in my unit.

I remember the three months I spent working at the Navy base at Adak. The barracks were not segregated. Both men and women slept, showered, and dressed in the same buildings. Most were in their early twenties and had some free time. The base had a swimming pool, bowling alley, cinema and other distractions. But none could compare with the attraction of a member of the opposite sex. I wondered how they ever got any work done.

This was my initial reaction, and I caught heat for it.

A plethora of folks were saying this is horrible, awful, demeaning, etc. Yeah, I guess, but it’s 0% surprising. The men and women put into this situation together are barely more than chemicals in a test tube.

I normally argue that individuals have primary responsibility for their actions, and to blame “society” is a lame cop out. But even that truth has limits beyond which you will break that truth.

    For example:
If, for the purposes of a scientific experiment, I were given 100 humans–50 young, fit males, and 50 young, voluptuous females–I believe I could create the conditions to get virtually 100% of them to mate with one another, regardless of upbringing, morals, or history.

Now, if you can get past this creepy Mengele-esque science experiment image…
Wanna bet whether military communal life is closer to or further from these “ideal conditions” that I would create?

Back in 1982, LONG before there was an internet I too was a victim of this horrible and senseless invasion. There was never an investigation.

Our barracks were mixed, and there was a shit ton of ” mixing” going on, all the time. Married, single, dependents, even a few open secret gay couples.

Young people have sex. I know it’s shocking to think that young mush-minded individuals would do exactly as their biological programming dictates, but it’s true.

I met my first wife in the barracks when I took her from one of my classmates. The only thing she & I ever did well together was smashing hips.
