Chuck Barris Gonged At 87

Chuck Barris, whose game show empire included “The Dating Game,” ”The Newlywed Game” and that infamous factory of cheese, “The Gong Show,” has died. He was 87.

Barris died of natural causes Tuesday afternoon at his home in Palisades, New York, according to publicist Paul Shefrin, who announced the death on behalf of Barris’ family.

I know him best as the host of The Gong Show. Take it away Gene, Gene, the Dancing Machine. Dance for Chuck.

Huh. This is the second Chuck we’ve lost in the past few days. Godspeed Chucks.

Chuck Barris. Remember that story that he was also a CIA assassin?

I was very surprised to learn he was 87 years old. I thought he was much younger than that. But, then again, I still think about the 70s like it was 20 years ago. The mind is a terrible thing . . . yeah, that’s it.

I watched that show every day. He’s a guy whose creative genius became part of the everyday American experience. Seriously, the Dating Game. The Newlywed Game. Pure Gold.

On the Gong Show, my favorite judge was Jaye P. Morgan. She wasn’t afraid to rip off her shirt and show some great chesticles!
And by the way, thanks for the mammaries!

Exactly how much LSD do you suppose was dropped during the course of this show? I remember the 70s being an experimental time and the Gong Show was fun to watch, but these guys were always out there, man…

  9. Bman says:

Chuck always reminded me of the drunk New Years Eve party host.

Do you know how the French pronounce Chuck Barris? They pronounce it as “Chuck Berry”. Chuck Berry and Chuck Barris, both musicians, died within days of each other.

    Spooky.
