This still chills me…

April 20th, 1999.  I remember this so vividly.  Mainly because my oldest daughter had just been born a few months prior and I remember thinking, “I wonder how her high school experience will differ because of this.”

I sit here today — as she is finishing out her senior year in high school– thinking, “God, please don’t some sick or damaged kid think the ‘anniversary’ of Columbine would a good day to do something horrific.”

Fortunately, the Resource Officer (cop) assigned to my daughter’s High School on-campus is also on the department’s SWAT team (although not called that) and is the #1 sniper in the state.

Got my wisdom teeth pulled to this story:

I met one of my closest friends (& future battle buddy) talking about this very incident while we were sitting there, at the tooth puller’s office…as the story Broke.

Ha! I wasn’t until some 10 or so years later that I found out the same dentist made me a crown out of filling material. My civilian dentist was doing work on my teeth and said “You’re a vet?”

I was all “Yeah, why do you ask?” and he laughs and says “The military are the only bastards cheap enough to make a whole crown out filling material and tell you that you got proper dental care.”

He did say the guy was an artist, who formed the crown by hand, in my mouth.
