my daughter worked at the VA in Detroit for a year as a nurse. she left because of the horrific bureaucracy and and lack of concern for the patients.
They had all the best top end equipment and no problem getting lab tests etc. , but the whole atmosphere lacked compassion and concern for the patient. She said they had an entire office building near the hospital that was full of ” support” people who had no contribution to patient care. It also seemed that the primary goal of much of the patient staff was to get a job in that building.
she is now at an inner city hospital with no money and a patient base with terrible acuity. She says the care is much better and she gets tremendous satisfaction from the ability to get good patient outcomes.

The end result of any government program, and I mean ANY government program, is numbers. The people seeking services are just numbers. That is the bottom line.

Veterans should be able to go to any doctor or hospital and show their service identification and obtain the best medical free of charge.
