It baffles me how we ever managed to end up on the moon without social justice in mathematics….

  2. Sortahwitte says:

My hope is they will do as well with teaching social justice as they have with teaching mathematics.

  3. Bman says:

Reason #565 to home school. Who here has researched TFA?

Wow, these people are so much better organized than us.

“You’ll join an extraordinary, diverse network 53,000 strong tackling inequity from every sector.”

Radical Math was conceived in the mid-2000s by educators Jonathan Osler and Cathy Wilkerson, the latter of whom was once a member of the Weather Underground terrorist organization alongside the lifelong Marxist revolutionary Bill Ayers. As journalist Danette Clark explains, Radical Math “provides hundreds of social justice math lessons obviously meant to indoctrinate.” For example, mathematical principles are applied to calculation and analysis vis à vis such topics as prison populations, racial profiling, the death penalty, poverty, minimum/living wages, sweatshops, housing, gentrification, homeownership, oil consumption by the U.S., Iraq War casualties, median income by race, defense budgets, health insurance, scholastic achievement gaps, pollution, hunger, welfare benefits, and immigration. Some sample lesson titles include: “Sweatshop Accounting,” “Racism and Stop and Frisk,” “When Equal Isn’t Fair,” “The Square Root of a Fair Share,” and “Home Buying While Brown or Black.”

Critically Conscious Mathematics, meanwhile, uses math lessons to imbue children with a radical spirit aimed at “reorganizing societal institutions.”

Noting “the divisive, grievance-mongering activities of the group’s increasingly radicalized officials and alumni,” columnist Michelle Malkin wrote in June 2015: “TFA’s most infamous public faces don’t even pretend to be interested in students’ academic achievement. It’s all about race, tweets and marching on the streets…. Teach for America has transformed itself into a recruiting center for militants bent on occupying themselves with anything other than imparting knowledge and academic excellence to children in the classroom.”

  7. notamobster says:

Between 2000 and 2013, TFA’s yearly operating expenses increased from $10 million to $193.5 million. Approximately one-third of those costs were borne by the taxpaying public, including millions of dollars in federal AmeriCorps grants. Moreover, as columnist Michelle Malkin notes: “Large corporations…, philanthropic foundations, and individuals have pitched in nearly a half-billion dollars in tax-deductible charitable private donations.”

Wendy Kopp has been TFA’s board chairman since the group’s inception. To view a comprehensive list of all TFA board members, click here.

Insidious. These people should not be allowed near our children. Ditto for their evil agenda.
