Summer Begins!

Well, not exactly. By the calendar, it starts on June 21st. Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend. Well, that’s how it is up here in the Frozen Tundra anyway. We need to stretch out Summer for as long as possible.

Now that Summer has arrived, it reminds me that we haven’t had a good beer discussion for quite sometime. As some of the readers here know that I have casually mentioned the fact that I like to drink beer. I mean, who doesn’t? It’s God’s gift to show he loves us, to coin a phrase. So, what are your favorite beers? I’ll start:

1. 16oz Pabst Blue Ribbon
2. 12oz Pabst Blue Ribbon
3. Pabst Blue Ribbon in a bottle
4. Pabst Blue Ribbon in a glass
5. Pabst Blue Ribbon poured in my hand
6. Rainier Beer
7. Pabst Blue Ribbon from a sprinkler head

I feel yah Bman, but as I type, I am drinking a variation on the Moscow Mule in honor of the investigation. My variation uses Gin.

      oh sorry that was OT.
To answer your question my current favorite is a Spruce Tip Ale brewed in Skagway Alaska.

      • C. L. says:

Huh, let’s go a little deeper off topic. We here in the deep woods made spruce tip jelly a couple years ago. It tastes like you are eating sweetened pine sap but it is loaded with vitamin C. Not that bad, really, but one batch was enough.

Lately I have been drinking Pilsner Urquell. I had two tonight.

Every pilsner and pale lager in the world, including PBR, is a descendant of Pilsner Urquell. An old Bohemie in Prague told the missus and me it is he best beer in the world. He might be right.

If you ever get to North Carolina, my new top two beers are local: Red Oak Brewery’s, 1. Hummingbird. 2. Red Oak. I could die happy drinking them both. But if I can’t find them, Then a Paulanna or Franzikaner Hefeweizen is always delicious as well.

Anything dark. Porter. Love me some Smithwick’s…. (Medium Irish cream ale)

    Like Quilter’s Irish death.

Bitburger has a good ale. Tuborg Gold is really good, icy cold.

Almost all American beers (mass produced) suck. Watery, flavorless, crap.

    • Bman says:

Good thing PBR is owned by the Russians.

    • R.D. Walker says:

For sure. Luckily we live in a golden age of craft beers. Drinking the shit I drank 20 years ago would make me weep. So many good choices now.

I agree with your assessment of when Summer arrives. Memorial Day Weekend is the 5 Month warning of the advance of Halloween. It means that I really need to kick it in high gear. Big projects to be done between now and then. This year will see the debut of the Backyard Boneyard and the Life Flight. Heavy stuff. Memorial Day Weekend means I’m running short of time.

I also agree with your selections of fine, traditionally crafted Beer.

I thought you had given up on the 12 Ounce “Vapors”.

  8. C. L. says:

Bman, your post reminded me that I had better get the grill fired up this weekend. I just finished up some grilled pork steak and grilled asparagus that I picked from the garden this morning. Mmm, mmm, mmm.

While my Dad was a die-hard Pabst drinker, I usually drink whiskey, though I hardly drink at all. I did have a rather stiff whiskey drink in honor of summer beginning.

  9. R.D. Walker says:

I am about to have one right now. πŸ™‚

By the way, nice job on the subliminal messaging, Bman. I can clearly see the words “sex” and “drug” in your picture.
