Kids play the darndest games. A good one in St. Louis is to gather a group of friends and go beat the living hell out of somebody. It’s like Uno, but more exciting.
Trailnet.org is an organization in Illinois and Missouri focused on promotes biking, walking, hiking, and wearing really tight spandex pants that make everyone look gayer than hell. They recently posted about a series of attacks on bikers by mobs of 6 to 15 African-American men in South St. Louis. After pounding on the bikers, the gang tried to steal the bikes but failed.
“They weren’t really interested in robbing me. It just seemed like they wanted to beat me up,” says assault victim Cheech Ramirez. “They weren’t interested in letting me get off the ground and having a fair fight.”
Trailnet did a quick search and found that there has been over a thousand such attacks in the St. Louis area. One such attack in April killed a 72-year old man.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay leapt into action and suggested a vigorous citizen bike patrol.
