Joe Miller: “Obama Gives Seven Alaska Islands To Russia”

World Net Daily: “Obama’s giveaway: Oil-rich islands to Russia

The seven endangered islands in the Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea include one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Russians are also to get the tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds surrounding the islands. The Department of Interior estimates billions of barrels of oil are at stake.

The State Department has undertaken the giveaway in the guise of a maritime boundary agreement between Alaska and Siberia. Astoundingly, our federal government itself drew the line to put these seven Alaskan islands on the Russian side. But as an executive agreement, it could be reversed with the stroke of a pen by President Obama or Secretary Clinton.

The agreement was negotiated in total secrecy. The state of Alaska was not allowed to participate in the negotiations, nor was the public given any opportunity for comment. This is despite the fact the Alaska Legislature has passed resolutions of opposition – but the State Department doesn’t seem to care.”

Joe Miller was the 2010 Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate from Alaska. He is a West Point graduate and decorated combat veteran from the first Gulf War. A former judge, Joe graduated from Yale Law School and was later awarded an advanced economics degree from the University of Alaska. He is presently chairman of Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC and Restoring Liberty Action Committee.

Appalling, simply appalling. Someone has to follow the money on this one.

  2. TaterSalad says:

  3. RJM says:

    Zombies are coming.

  4. Uke says:

    I don’t give a shit about the oil… it’s important, absolutely, I don’t mean to say it’s not.

But there’s something very fundamentally offensive and heinous about simply giving away our land.

LAND, dammit. They’re not making it anymore, you know!

  5. TN-Cat says:

Just Obama giving Russia his lunch money. Russia probably threatened him with a wedgy, and the sissy gave up a few islands.

    This guy is a coward.

  6. Mary Brockman says:

Well, why not? He’s already given away the rest of the country to the Mexicans and mislims

  7. Todd says:

I thought Jimmy Carter gave away those islands in his time in office.
Has anybody noticed, nothing about it on Youtube yet.

  8. Steve says:

This has been going on for decades, originally signed by bush sr in 1991. Typical comments from not doing research first, duh!

  9. MichaelM says:

In fact, it was GHW Bush’s State Department that began those negotiations as part of end of cold war nice-making.

The reports and minutes of *thousands* of such incomplete and pointless negotiations are sitting on government department shelves all over the world – yes, in America too – and they don’t matter because they’re going nowhere and never *will* go anywhere. No national government in history has ever done things differently.

Joe Miller’s simply saying pseudo-patriotic things to get people angry.

He’s also indirectly (and in cowardly fashion) calling the most recent four US presidents traitors for doing what *all* national leaders do every day: ignoring worthless reports.

  10. The REAL tea party says:

They have been giving away our land to the UN for years. Look up UN World Heritage Sites… the UN claims they do not belong to us anymore… some of our most cherished areas.

There is only ONE candidate who will stop the ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT and it’s not Mitt, Newt or Rick…

  11. BJ says:

Steve, SO WHAT! This doesn’t mean obummer should do it! Moron!

  12. King says:

Ask not what your president can do for America, (because you’re nobody) ask what he can give to other countries. Land, jobs, money, corporations, loyalty, honesty, and the list goes. What ever happened to the good old days when gov’ts and elected officials actually cared and helped the people of their own country.
wait, I forgot, this is an Obama deal, maybe one of the countries that are getting stuff is his.

  13. Unbelievable. This is an impeachable offense!

What’s even more scary is how complicit the MSM is with this guy. CNN is like his own personal propoganda arm.

  14. Its up to us to get these stories out, online.

Thank God for the internet and social media!

  15. mike viehl says:

shame and more shame on all us americans who are allowing this.when do we march?when do we rebel?our founders would be ashamed

  16. MadBrad says:

There was a time when our Enemies had to FIGHT to get a little piece of Alaska.

Our domestic Enemy is much more effective than our foreign ones.

  17. Dulcie says:

What right does he think he has to give anything away with the trillions he’s put our kids in debt for! He acts as though hes God.

  18. Marie Mulder says:

Jimmy Carter gave away the Panama Canal,Todd.

  19. Mike Z says:

The Boundary Agreement of 1867, when the territory was purchased, says the islands belong to Russia. President Bush signed the Executive Agreement in 1990. It should have been done long ago.

  20. Locke n Load says:

Actually Mike, the Boundary agreement does NOT say that. It fact it has been in dispute with the USSR only in the last 90 years. Before that it was a dispute with Britain and Canada and pre-revolutionary Russia. The fight actually goes back to 1825,lol. When Bush signed this it was something of a helping hand/ goodwill gesture, not an acknowledgement of anything else.

One thing I find interesting is it’s an agreement with a non-entity. They had to have revamped the treaty to re-do this or it would be void. I wonder if we have any treaties with the Hessians we should be aware of..

  21. Locke n Load says:

Whats truly galling about this is every administration’s dismissal of Alaskan concerns. The citizens were ignored, the fisherman were ignored, the legislature was ignored, etc. If Washington were to suddenly decide the Rio Grande border of Mexico was actually a mistake (there is a dispute about the territory, yes), and that they had signed it over to Mexico blood would be running in the streets and Texas would have a secession vote. I guarantee it.

  22. Notamobster says:

I’d move to the front and defend the Republic of Texas tomorrow if they seceeded.

  23. Locke n Load says:

I’d be there with bells on

  24. Locke n Load says:

Ya know, we have a few disputed treaties with the native americans as well. Think New York would be copacetic if Obama just ‘administratively’ decided to settle those as well? The Seneca tribe would be thrilled but western NY and eastern PA might be JUST a little pissed.

The problem here guys IMHO is that Obama tried to let this slide under the radar and AGAIN ignored the citizens. He thinks and acts like a dictator. He doesn’t give a damn what you think. He sees himself as the ultimate authority on EVERYthing so F you and whatever you think, its good to be the king.

  25. Jim says:

Who the hell does this guy think he is, just without reason , give away large tracks of our land and water resourses, to of all people the RUSSIANS. WTF is this absolutely BRAINDEAD ASSH*LE thinking ?? That would be like giving Washington D.C. to the Cubans.

Come on Barack, get your head out of your ass.

  26. Manny Davis says:

I am really to march on Washington DC. Such incompetence!!!! He is THE MORE WORTHLESS PRESIDENT IN HISTORY!!!

  27. I no longer accept Obama as an American citizen. He should be impeached and imprisoned immediately for this act of treason against the American people.

  28. M says:

Bush (R) gave them away in 1990. Secrete talks were under republican leadership.

  29. simon h gedney says:

Doesn’t this have to be ratified by the Senate? This is a treaty, not an “executive agreement.” After all, do you think Russia will ever give these islands back?

  30. Mike Z says:

Actually, Locke n Load, it does say that in great detail, including Longitude and Latitude designations.
The only claim the US had to those islands was because a ship accidentally landed on them in the winter when it was stuck in ice.

  31. Locke n Load says:

Well Mike, everything I was able to find suggests the dispute has been running from the very beginning. Please, show me your links so I can have a look myself. You could in fact be correct about the Russian claim and how it originated so I want to see. That won’t change a damned thing in the larger view of history though. If the land has been disputed for over a hundred years I’d say the folks who claimed it could have forced the issue ages ago, don’t you? That is of course, assuming their claims were actually valid. Why should we accept the default position as one contrary to opur country’s best interests? Why especially, since the dispute involves one party no longer in existence? Is this the standard you expect me to accept? That anyone can make a claim and I say “oh shoot, you’re right, wtf were we thinking these last 140 yrs. Everyone who came before me was obviously a clown and a thief. You must be right. Here ya go”

    Ummmm fuck that.
By your logic I guess we should accept British Columbia’s claim to the mts surrounding Juneau. Fuck it, we bartered in sometimes bad faith for a lot of the west..
Ya know what? Lets give it ALL back. After all, our evidence must be tainted by our lust for Empire or something.

Have you missed the ENTIRE point of the problem here? The POTUS took it upon himself to settle a 140 yr old dispute without consulting the state, withour regard for our fishing or oil interests, and without the best interests of this nation at heart. He’ll cave on the North Pole as well you know. ALl he ever does is concede our interests, sheesh.

  32. Jaxdia1 says:

What about the AMERICANS Living on the islands???????

  33. locke n load says:

And Mike, I’m sorry to come across as a bit cross here but you’re expecting me to take whatever evidence you’ve found as trumping 140 yrs of historical debate. Whether or not GHB signed the treaty is almost irrelevant. That SOB played CIA boss for a long time and was an experienced doubledealer. Fact is, that land was in dispute for ages for a reason, and that reason was probably something as simple as BS evidence presented by the Russians and then Soviets. And John Muir isn’t just some ice fisherman who got lost, look him up,lol. He was up there cataloguing our lands.

I have a splitting headache and don’t feel much like trying to map all the damned lat/long coordinates. Heres the treaty.

  34. locke n load says:

Sheesh, I was trying to be nice and totally screwed it up. Lets try again.

Mike, I guess what I’m saying is obviuously the treaty wasn’t the end of the story. Please explain to me how, if it was all settled business 140 yrs ago, we still had disagreements over what was and what was not included? Then tell me why you think THEY should have their way, not us. Then tell me why Obama felt compelled to do this when the last 2 presidents didn’t.

  35. Notamobster says:

    Yeah, f-ker!

  36. gar bet 12 says:

maybe some of you should get the facts before going after obama. it started long before obama was president by senile bush in 1991, and by james baker sec’y of state in 1990. look it up.

  37. Barab says:

Please read this link. It was negotiated before Obama….this is really convoluted.

  38. American Citizen says:

The Muslim wants to block Canadian oil coming to the United States. Hussein want the United States to depend on his beloved Islam. Hussein exempts Islam from his ObamaCare but if you convert to Islam he won’t make you join…as he also gave an exmption for is Islamic family as they are not required to join. Russia will develop this oil but if the United States owns it the Sierra Club will cry. Interesting some of the biggest source of donations to the Sierra Club are from oil companies. Bottom line is the Muslim is giving away our land!!! What is China, Mexico, Iran, Brazil (Hussein gave them $3 billion) going to give US taxoayera??????

  39. Shar says:

Are you people this dumb? The was negotiated in 2000. Before Obama was even a SENATOR. It even says that in the article – just doesn’t give you the date so you don’t realize how LONG ago it was. It never says Obama made the deal in the first place in fact it says the OPPOSITE.

If he issues an executive order he’s a dictator, but NOW if he doesn’t issue one to stop something that happened under Republican control of the White House, then HE’s the one giving away our country?? Here’s the FACTS about the issue.

  40. Tn-Cat says:

There must have been a talking points memo issued by media matters this morning.

Moonbats are up early this morning. Shocking, normally the drugs don’t wear off until after 2pm on Sundays.

  41. Locke n Load says:

Shar, some of us who read that article AND the original treaty understand the situation just fine. Yes, we understand bush the elder set it up. Yes, ok?

But this kind of misses the point, don’t you think?

If he issues an executive order he’s a dictator, but NOW if he doesn’t issue one to stop something that happened under Republican control of the White House, then HE’s the one giving away our country??

The agreement Baker drew up was BS and never should have been done. So Bush owns blame too, yes. But the deal wasn’t actually in effect until Obama just let it happen. Obama had the ability to do the right thing and DIDN’T. He had the power to stop it or redo it, just like Clinton and Bush 2. The deal was written, yes, but 2 prioor presidents didn’t give it the green light. Obama did, so Obama now catches the shit. Does GWB deserve a large share? Yes. Is Obama JUST as guilty? Yes.
Granted, its a convoluted situation but I thought the man was supposed to be a genius and see through all the confusion, lol. What, he isn’t? Or IS he and does he indeed understand the situation and still like the idea of the giveaway? I’m going with the latter.
That makes him a dick in my book. That makes his act dictatorial regardless of whether he initiated it. He approved of it and finished the job. Pathetic.

  42. The Swampfox says:

Why don’t we sell Obama to Africa (Kenya)? oh, I forgot! Hillary already tried that. They wanted 5 million just to use him as lion’s bait.
I would give Obama to the Muslim’s. They would fill his ass with C-4 and send him back as a IED….

  43. sizwiz says:

People, people……what it is is that someone told him about the error he made when he mentioned he’d visited “57 states”. So he figured he’d give away seven islands and he’d be back to 50! Lol! You gotta laugh! Cause he’s funny. Not funny hahaha, funny pathetic.

  44. sizwiz says:

People, people……what it is is that someone told him about the error he made when he mentioned he’d visited “57 states”. So he figured he’d give away the seven states off the coast of Alaska and now we’re back to 50! Lol! You gotta laugh! Cause he’s funny. Not funny hahaha, funny pathetic.

  45. Kurtosis Jones says:

The islands are *clearly* Russian territory, not even remotely near Alaska:

And it was George Bush Sr. who started the process, not Obama. Did anyone here besides Mike Z bother to even pull up the treaty on Wikipedia, much less the actual text of it?

Read the explanation of the dispute, and the resulting treaty. The US got the better end of the deal. This is just the original 1990/1991 treaty (ratified by US Senate back then) finally being concluded. Russia fulfilled their part, now we’re finally getting around to fulfilling ours.

  46. chris says:

This is a deal for Russia to continue to get oil and also they wont intervene once we attack Iran which would cause WW3.

  47. MadBrad says:

Chris, World War Three has been going on for quite some time.

  48. Danny Adams says:

I suspect the Russian inhabitants of these islands would be surprised to hear about this. Wrangel alone has been settled by Russians since the 1920s.

  49. notsuprised says:

What does anyone expect from a president who hates his country and is hell bent in turning it into a banana republic. While were at it why dont we give bach OCCUPIED north Mexico ( Californis Arizona New Mexico and Colorado ) woops forget it just Arizona everyone else voted for him.

  50. Alvin J. Bates says:

    Hey Obama,

Did you ever hear of a thing called state rights?
When you do a thing like this, it smells like you are making secret deals in back rooms with who knows who.
How can the american people trust a president that hides and sneaks about doing harm to our state in such a way as this.
You act like a high and mighty person that the lowly alaskan is not worth your time or effort to even consult with before giving away our precious state.
You are wrong in this and you can not be trusted. I do not believe you are making any friends up here in alaska with all of you sercanery! Please, stay out of state politics and stop the over reaching of actions like this.
I have been polite but you have openly slapped every alaskan in the face with this.
We will remember this on election day and I predict that you will not win alaska in your november run for president.
I can’t wait to see the spin that you will put on this one. (No dice!!!)

    “Eagerly awaiting the elections”

  51. fu says:

Yeah this crap was started by ol’ Henry Kissinger way back in the Ford Admin. BO was still stealing cigs and chuging boones farm wine.

  52. fu says:

this alligation is totally misleading B.S.

  53. Pat Crager says:

This is nothing considering that he is selling us out everyday. Since when does he have the right to give away land or anything else without the congress and the state’s say so and take away our gun rights also. Vote him out and get someone in there that is not making a deal with the devil.

  54. jdelaney3 says:

Sorry to rain on the parade, but it appears that this is much ado about essentially nothing.

As stated by a commenter or two above, the boundary agreement clearly indicates Russia as the rightful owner of these islands. And Pres Bush okayed it with his signature in 1990. Also, the Senate chopped off on the agreement in 1991. If one looks at a map, it is abundantly obvious that these particular islands are so distant from Alaska, and so clearly within the Russian geographic orbit, that it simply makes no sense to think of these remote snowbound islands north of Siberia smack in the middle of the Arctic Ocean as American territories. There are many more legitimate beefs with this imperial President which should command our attention and action. These islands are NOT a legitimate concern eitehr from a patriotic or legal standpoint. Thanks to some of the commenters here who took the time to do their research before weighing in.

  55. Angelpdx says:

So what’s on our side of the line? They’ve got to draw the line somewhere…

  56. WISK says:

In the world of international politics, trade, diplomacy, etc., a “deal” usually means both sides get something… What do we get?? Can’t wait for the election…

  57. 4Liberty says:

Sorry to rain on your parade jdelaney3 but you have a lot to learn about Our Constitution. The Executive Branch does not have the power to take land or give it away, nor to buy land or give it away. Read the Constitution You might learn something.

  58. 4Liberty says:

Also if you do the research, the islands were originally obtained by the US Government legally from Russia. Secondly, those Islands according to our own government are surrounded by oil rich seabeds which could lead jobs and help remove us from middle east dependency. Furthmore this so called deal was done in secrecy, Only the Congress has the power to buy or sell US Land, or take away of give land. Also it is the responsibility of our Government to include the State in the Negotiation of territory give away of such State, in this case Alaska.

  59. Jessie says:

Shocking! After reading all the comments, it’s clear I don’t know all the details. It seems as though this is a long standing issue (or non-issue, depending on how you see it). Either way, I still feel violated knowing Obama (or any president before him) would simply sign away land the US might have a claim to. Given our current economic status, unemployment rates, foreign oil dependence, etc etc, I just can’t see there being any “good” side to this action. Obama did the wrong thing, whether that was giving the land away, or simply not signing something to stop it from happening. Who ever got the wheels rolling on this can be an argument of politics, but he had a chance to stop it, and didn’t. UN-AMERICAN.

  60. Shelley says:

I’ve heard rumor of this for a while, someone said yesterday it was a done deal. So please can someone give us the executive order number so this can be verified? Executive orders were never intended to give away US lands! I live in AZ and most of the state is federal land. Will I find one day that AZ is no longer part of the US? This needs to be addressed but we also need to verify. Need the number.
