Environmentalists: Practicing the Opposite of What They Preach
April 5, 2008
To greenwash is to give a positive public image to putatively environmentally unsound practices. Environmentalist wack-a-doos use the word to dismiss any attempt by industry to promote environmentalism. If Exxon-Mobil or Archer Daniels Midland attempts to advertise any green practice, it will be immediately dismissed as mere greenwashing by green true believers. You know, guys like Leonardo DiCaprio. Today we learn this…
Environmentally conscious Leonardo DiCaprio is practicing what he preaches these days. The actor recently added an eco-friendly apartment in New York City to his impressive list of earth-healthy possessions, which already include a hybrid car and a solar paneled home in Los Angeles. The 33-year-old actor has purchased an apartment in Riverhouse, which overlooks the Hudson River.
The 264-unit condominium glass tower overlooks the river and a park, and boasts low emission paints, a 24-hour fresh filtered air system, a water treatment facility and rotating solar panels.
DiCaprio will seemingly have everything at his fingertips. The David Rockwell-designed high-rise features an indoor 50-foot lap pool, media cafe, fitness center, landscaped terrace — and dog spa.
Sweet crib. It isn’t even close to as energy efficient as is my New York City condo, however. In fact, my pad in the Big Apple is infinitely more environmentally friendly that Leo’s digs. My condo is non existent. I don’t have one and, furthermore, I never even travel to Manhattan. Can’t get much more green than that. DiCaprio’s second home (that is a photo of his first home above), no matter how greenwashed it may be, is less green than no second home in Manhattan.
DiCaprio and the rest of the limousine liberal set don’t even come close to “practicing what they preach.” A second home in New York and the travel to get there creates a huge carbon foot print. DiCaprio, Al Gore and all the rest of the hypocrites of the preening environmentalist elite use far, far more resources that the average Americas they cajole and lecture to live more frugally.

I think he named his first home “11th Hour”.
