April 10, 2012 – Representative Allen West (R-FL), during a town hall in Jensen Beach, responds to the question “What percentage of the American legislature do you believe are card carrying Marxists, [unintelligible]?” He says that he believes “78-81 members of the Democrat Party are members of the Communist Party.”
Sympathizers? Yeah, probably. Actual members of the Communist Party? I don’t think so.
UPDATE: In the comments below, Lerxst provides a link to the unedited video. It is evident from that video that West was telling a joke. He said that 78-81 members of the Democrat Party are members of the Communist Party and then, after a comedic pause, he said, “it’s called the Congressional Progressive Caucus.”
In other words, he isn’t claiming there are any actual members of the Communist Party in Congress but that being a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus is the same as being a member of the Communist Party. It was a joke.

By my count there are 76 CPC members (all Democrat) and 13 members of the CBC that are not also members of the CPC (excluding Rep. Allen West). These folk may not all be card carrying communists, but I have little doubt that nearly all of these 89 members of Congress despise our Constitution, support socialism (or worse), and cannot with any honesty have taken their oaths of office. In my book, that makes tham all commies.
