Freshman Republican Rep. Allen West (Fla.) is locked in a tight race with Democrat Patrick Murphy as the two competed in one of the nastiest races in the nation, according to MSNBC election projections.
West, despite out-raising Murphy 5-to-1, trailed by less than 3,000 with 100 percent of Florida’s 18th District reporting, according to MSNBC.
West, a Tea Party favorite, has not conceded, and it is unclear whether there will be a recount. Florida law requires a recount if the margin is 0.5 percent or less of votes cast.

West is demanding a recount. “Murphy has 160,328 votes, or 50.4 percent, to West’s 157,872 votes and 49.6 percent, according to the Associated Press, which has still not officially declared a winner.”
