BUMPED: Hostess’ Stock Just Rallied In My Opinion

Nice job, unions!

Hostess Brands Inc, the maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread, said it will ask a bankruptcy judge for permission to liquidate after failing to obtain wage and benefit cuts from thousands of its bakery workers.

The company said a strike by members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union that started last week was too much to overcome.

all 18,000 workers laid off!  But, of course, it was management’s fault.

Welcome to the unemployment line, douchebags!

Hostess Brands permanently closed three bakeries Monday, including a plant in St. Louis where 365 jobs were cut, in response to a bakers’ union strike that started Friday.

The bankrupt maker of Twinkies and Wonder bread said it’s trying to avert liquidating the entire company, and it shuttered three plants that were no longer able to produce and deliver products because of picket lines. The other plant closures are in Seattle and Cincinnati, where a combined 262 jobs were cut.

“We deeply regret this decision, but we have repeatedly explained that we will close facilities that are no longer able to produce and deliver products because of a work stoppage — and that we will close the entire company if widespread strikes cripple our business,” Hostess CEO Gregory Rayburn said in a statement.

My biological mother gave me a bag of Hostess donuts the other day because she didn’t like them. I gave them to the kids – and vowed not to buy anymore Hostess products when I saw the Union stamp on the bag. That hasn’t changed for me, but I applaud them for sticking to their guns!

I will no longer knowingly buy any products manufactured with union labor! I don’t care if I have to personally boycott every single product on the planet. No more giving my money to people who hate me.

Wow. People who hate you. you’re talking about hard working Americans who work hard, pay their taxes and raise their families while living the American dream.
All this about Twinkies has you spewing the hatred bigtime

  2. TN-Cat says:

Yes Mark. I firmly believe last weeks election drew a line in the sand.

Really is sad, but the unions and every other left leaning entity created it.

We just happen to be firmly planted on the opposite side.

  3. dukka says:

I tread lightly here based on past experience! 🙂 but I whole heartily side with Hostess here for closing its doors. When the union labor is running the company and leadership has caved time and time again to their demands and ultimately lost the upper hand….it’s time to kick them to the curb or deep six it all. It’s too bad that too many notable companies continue to cave and give in to the union thugs’ demands fearing they will look bad in the public eye…OR that is un-PC. A union (if recognized) needs to know their place, limits, and boundaries. If (like a child) they overstep those boundaries they need a whipping. I still believe Henry Ford had every right to send a message to UAW at the Battle of the Overpass when the UAW used Ford Motor in the back drop during a picture opp.

  4. rj says:

@mark… yea work hard, pay their taxes and cooperate with their union bosses in electing a marxist regime that is hell bent on the destruction of this country…I grew up around unions, I fuckin hate them and all they do…they destroyed manufacturing in every non right to work state and wont stop the destruction even at their own suffering…how fuckin stupid do you have to be to strike till youe employer is forced to shut down….fuck em every one, no fucking regard for all the other people down line who will suffer from their sheer fucking ignorance.

  5. Greg B says:

    Hee hee!
I love it when unions get spanked.
I’d starve before I work in a union shop.

  6. notamobster says:

Yes, Mark. People who hate me. Go to youtube and type in the words “union thug”.

The individuals may not hate me, but the unions – SURE AS I AM BREATHING & TYPING RIGHT NOW – do.

Unions are the vehicle by which radical leftists have taken over our country. Fuck the unions. Starve every single god-damned one of them!

Spewing the hatred big time. Yep.

I hate organizations who actively seek to destroy that which I hold sacred. That which I have sworn my life to defend. That which I have offered my life to defend. No secret, there.

  7. fubar says:

the union scumbags shoudln’t even QUALIFY for unemployment

Toyota installed the new Tundra plant a couple of years ago down here. The company I was working for got the contract to do part of the construction work. I was not privy to the details as I was ensuring the totem pole was firmly rooted, but to my understanding, Toyota made us resubmit our bid to include higher pay for our laborers and equipment operators. That increased the price of the contract. They then audited our payroll to ensure that the increased hourly rate was being passed on to the employees. They wanted to make sure that everybody was on their best behavior by compensating them at what turned out to be about 150% of their normal pay. Toyota was picky and strict, but everybody enjoys working with them. I have many friends that work for them and they are very successful even in mid skill level jobs. I’ve always been a GM guy, but due to recent circumstances, that Toyota Tundra is lookin mighty fine.

I occasionally have the “opportunity” to work with union folks. I don’t know how any company can make money and sell a competitively priced product with union labor. The unions lock these guys in too. If they want to dissolve the union, the retirement pay is gone for those that earned it. You need a unanimous decision to dissolve and that will never happen. Most people just get stuck in unions to keep their jobs. Some assimilate to the worthless piece of shit level, but many are good tradesmen that have to play the stupid games.

The disconnect was well defined in the above discussion by nota and others. There are few union workers that we dislike. There are many workers that happen to be in unions that we do like. There is no union that we like (that is not defined as being between one man and one woman).

  9. TN-Cat says:

You wont go wrong with a Tundra BigJim.
4-1/2 years, 50,000 miles. Only oil changes, filters, grease and a set of tires. Still drives as tight as day one. A lot of heavy towing miles in between too.

  10. vanagram says:

Changing gears slightly, Hostess has been coughing the death rattle for years. Here is a great article from Fortune on the whole Hostess debacle:

Twinkies, I think, have a shelf life of approximate 4 centuries, so we might have to lift the “no union purchase’ rule for a bit so we can stock up for the Zombie Apocalypse.

  11. notamobster says:

It helps that I don’t care for the preservative laden sugary snacks, anyway.

  12. Jim22 says:

    RE Mark:

I read a wise piece the other day in the comments section of some blog. It went something like this, ‘Using the word Hate to describe someone is a tell. It shows everyone that you are a leftist POS who doesn’t want to add anything to the conversation. You only want to shut the discussion down so you can claim a measly victory.’

It won’t get you that victory here. As you can see you didn’t bully anyone into silence. You were ignored and the comments continued.

    Go away, troll.

  13. Roy Ryder says:

Let’s see, the union flunkies work for a company that’s been in bankruptcy before and very well could be again. Their jobs are generally low skilled and easily replaced jobs that were automated a long time ago. They were warned that the company could and would close plants that it obviously didn’t need if they chose to strike and picket. And, they chose to strike anyway. That is just about as good a definition of “choosing poorly” as you can get.

  14. Matt says:

Good on Rayburn for picking Reagan’s PATCO actions from his playbook. Hopefully it kills the Hostess union just as it killed PATCO.

  15. RJ says:

Fracking morons, kill the golden goose just because you can.

Not just bakers, delivery, suppliers and retail will suffer, customers will no longer be able to choose the product they have enjoyed, marketing persons who are linked to Hostess products will suffer from loss of income related to the hostess accounts, I am sure there are others I cannot even think of, all because Fucking Union leaders convince morons to keep walking the picket line cause they are worth so much more than the labor they provide.

On a side note Walmart is threatened with a black friday walkout/strike.

I hope they fire every fricking participant.

  16. Slaphappypap says:

I was hoping they would give an opportunity to let me work nights there. Christmas is coming.

Nobody else wants to work there. Why not me for a better rate?

  17. fubar says:

uh. have you guys heard about walmart employees threatening a walk out yet?

  18. Van-a-gram says:

@fubar — I think walmart should make their black Friday special a deal on twinkies. Or is that too subtle for union mentality?

  19. R.D. Walker says:

No doubt Michelle Obama and the food Nazis will be celebrating.

  20. James says:

Hopefully the company will emerge post bankruptcy sans union agreements, and open shop.

  21. BrunDawg says:

I’m looking a little like the cop in the Die Hard movie. Loading up.

  22. fubar says:

it’s the end of civilization as we know it if we are to do without twinkies AND walmart. especially on Black Friday. ///

  23. RJ says:

@ James, not likely they are wanting permission from bankruptcy judge to sell assets, tools of trade if you will, kinda they are going out of business….another company falls to union thugs.

  24. R.D. Walker says:

Who knew it would all come to end without a zombie pocky-lips?

  25. R.D. Walker says:

They could sell the brand and the product. For example, Sara Lee could end up making and selling Twinkies.

Still, it is a liquidation so it looks like Hostess goes the way of Studebaker and Woolworth’s.

  26. Slaphappypap says:

Funny, the Teamsters cut a deal. It was the Bakers/Tobacco Union that shot it down. So dumb.

This is when Warren Buffet swoops in and buys all the assets. Who wouldn’t like the receipes for Hostess?

  27. DarthJay says:

Maybe the government will do a takeover of the company and Moochelle will start making healthy Twinkies for gov’t subsidized food programs…

  28. R.D. Walker says:

If Obama saves Hostess he will gift it to the union that killed it, you know that.

  29. R.D. Walker says:

“Most employees who lose their jobs should be eligible for government-provided unemployment benefits,” Hostess said.

  30. James says:

Kind of interesting how that works.
Government unemployment programs enable union striking.

  31. Roy Ryder says:

We need to develop a name for unionized assholes who are left jobless because of their own actions. Something that would easily identify them as lemming-like morons who crap in their own nests and then wonder why they left alone in the dark.

    @Roy: Uholes?

  34. fubar says:

Hostess could appeal with unemp. bennies instead of rewarding the dirtbags.

  35. BigJimTX says:

I’ve had the opportunity to talk to unemployed Uholes before (I like it Van). I have explained that maybe they wouldn’t be unemployed if the union wasn’t screwing them. They don’t get it.

  36. notamobster says:

Congratulations, Uholes! Welcome to the unemployment line, bitchez.

18,000 people no longer paying dues to the Pole Smokers International every week. Nicely played. I hope Hostess gets bought by someone who can make em profitable again. This is what should’ve happened with GM & Chrysler.

  37. R.D. Walker says:

“Congratulations, Uholes! Welcome to the unemployment line, bitchez.”

When the new jobless numbers are released, they will blame this on Sandy.

  38. Slaphappypap says:

Meanwhile back in La La Land. It’s Mitt Romney’s fault the union steals cash from your check.
