Romney: It was all about the swag…

I’d say that pretty much goes without saying. Here is Mitt.

“In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups,” Mr. Romney said.

“With regards to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was a big gift,” he said. “Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents’ plan, and that was a big gift to young people. They turned out in large numbers, a larger share in this election even than in 2008.”

It’s not like we didn’t see it coming.

“The America of my time line is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies, what has eventually happened to all perfect democracies throughout all histories. A perfect democracy, a ‘warm body’ democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction. It depends solely on the wisdom and self-restraint of citizens… which is opposed by the folly and lack of self-restraint of other citizens. What is supposed to happen in a democracy is that each sovereign citizen will always vote in the public interest for the safety and welfare of all. But what does happen is that he votes his own self-interest as he sees it… which for the majority translates as ‘Bread and Circuses.’

‘Bread and Circuses’ is the cancer of democracy, the fatal disease for which there is no cure. Democracy often works beautifully at first. But once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader—the barbarians enter Rome.”

  1. James says:

Hispanics voted for Zero on the assumption of amnesty and citizenship for illegals.

  2. R.D. Walker says:

I never understood that. If I were Mexican, here, legal and able to vote, I think I would want them to lock down the boarder tighter than hell. The last thing I would want to be more Mexicans in country, competing with me for jobs and driving down the cost of labor. I don’t get it.

  3. Frank in Texas says:

R.D., it is called race politics. Just like blacks in this country are all in for Obama even though his policies are killing them economically and job wise they still went for him by over 95%. Same with Hispanics, all they see is race. With race groups like La Raza whipping up the Hispanic populace the Democrats made Republicans the face of racism. Until and unless blacks and Hispanics can be made to see that the politics of the Democrat Party are hurting them more than they are helping we will keep getting the same results in elections.

  4. Doc says:

R.D.-In my experience, th’ Mexican-nationals that came here (AZ) LEGALLY & went thru th’ citizenship process are HOPPIN’ UP-N-DOWN MAD about amnesty…

  5. Rich says:

To really understand bread-and-circuses, you need to understand the bigger picture. That picture in well presented here:

As far as I am concerned, every American ought to watch this video monthly for a year, and those under age 25, weekly for a year.

And then with a familiar understanding of the framework of politics, they could then, pray God, make better electoral decisions.
