Obama says GOP will cave

Interesting negotiation strategy Obama is using. By publicly announcing the GOP will cave, Obama is maneuvering the negotiation so that, in order for him to win, his opponents must be humiliated.

Strange. I must have missed the chapter in “Getting to Yes” that advocated forcing your opponent to decide between utter humiliation and stubborn refusal to negotiate or compromise.

As the clock ticks toward a tax hike on all Americans in 20 days, President Obama predicted Republicans would join Democrats to extend current rates for 98 percent of earners before the end of the year.

“I’m pretty confident that Republicans would not hold middle class taxes hostage to trying to protect tax cuts for high-income individuals,” Obama said today in an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Barbara Walters.

Obama is probably right. I don’t think Republicans will hold middle class taxes hostage to trying to protect tax cuts for high-income individuals.

On the other hand I am absolutely, positively certain that Obama will ruthlessly hold middle class taxes hostage to gouge and punish high-income individuals.

Obama, for a pol, is *shockingly* untrained in the “art of the deal.” He is all about strong arm, hard ball, and kneecap negotiation.

  3. in the end it won’t matter at all.

Boehner is an unmitigated COWARD & HYPOCRITE. He isn’t going to “cave”…this P.O.S. is IN ON TH’ DEAL…it’s all smoke & mirrors…IMHO…
