NRA To Cave In To Liberal Demands On Gun Control?

NRA STATEMENT

12/18/2012

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.

  1. notamobster says:

Dear Lord I hope they don’t go yellow on us. They will lose my membership and support, forever.

  2. R.D. Walker says:

Let’s wait to hear what they have to say.

  3. notamobster says:

You’re right, I just have a bad feeling about the way all this is going.

People are irrationally upset about this.

It’s horrible, what happened, but the left (and even some on the right) are going apoplectic. I guess I’m just fearing another let down, a la SCOTUS, and the election…

  4. Uke says:

I’m willing to wait to see what they have to say.

That said, if they fuck this up… next stop, incremental GBR gun ban here we come. But FASTER (since Americans have no patience, dontchaknow?).

  5. RJ says:

I am willing to wait and see what they say,
“meaningful contributions… ” = a program set up and funded to provide free instruction and a smith&wesson mod 66 to teachers in any school district in the US that agrees to allow teachers to carry at school …” to help make sure this never happens again.” hey it could happen…

  6. RUDE JUDE says:

NRA membership gone for sure. The American Legion’s Jr. Shooting Sports Program supports the NRA too with membership, etc.

  7. RJ says:

I watched the live streaming news conference today, pretty good response, they anounced a sponsoring of a new program for providing armed security in every school, mix of paid and volunteer and tech type security. Lead by retired Congressmen Issa.

there were a couple nutballs tried to disrupt the conference but they were quickly ushered away.

    • Buzzdaddy says:

Your comment two days ago was damn near clairvoyant! After listening to Wayne LaPierre today, I am confident in my NRA membership. And relieved.

  8. Rockheim says:

I’m inclined to listen to what they have to say. However I have a very large grain of salt in a bowling bag to take it with..

That said.. What does “responsible gun control” look like?

Whether we like it or not some changes are coming. And either we drive the changes or we get run over by them.

I was bandying this around with some other folks.. And while not perfect it takes the wind out of the sails of the grabbers while protecting the rights of the gun owners..

    1. Removal of all the stupid “gun free” zones, especially in schools.. EXCEPT for Court houses, town halls, jails, and other state/federal buildings with controlled access and a substantial Police presence.
    2. Federal CCW recognized by all 50 states with a bi-annual qualification.
    3. Mandatory reporting of stolen firearms.
    4. Private sales through FFL’s or licensed clearing/auction houses only.. Allow for private FFL transfers, background checks through the local post office or county Sherriff/local Police
    5. NO registration of privately owned firearms.
    6. Mandatory reporting of any and all patients under the care of a psychiatrist or who is being prescribed an onging regimen of certain anti-psychotic pharmaceuticals to a FBI database that is used for Background checks alone. Just like teh existing background check DB that can’t be accessed by outside agencies without a warrant. Give Doctors the ability to add and remove patients from such a registry on demand as care plans dictate.
    7. Keep the current laws for Automatic weapons and suppressors on the books. A background check and $200 tithe to the ATF is not such an onerous check to someone who is about to drop well in excess of $10k on a weapon that consumes hundreds of dollars worth of ammo in minutes if not seconds. The only caveat.. Suppressors. They’re a consumable item. A single background check and fee should be sufficient for any future replacement with the condition that any NEW suppressor be shipped or sold only when the old/damaged one is turned in. Call it a “core exchange”.

This covers the so called “gun show loophole” that barely exists. It covers automatic weapons. It covers mental health problems. It covers the patchwork of CCW laws across the nation. It adresses all the “quasi-real” issues that have been brought up.
