It was jackassery from start to finish. This is how they defined an assault rifle.
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
- Folding or telescoping stock
- Pistol grip
- Bayonet mount
- Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
- Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)
Based on that definition. This was an illegal assault weapon.
And this was a legal rifle.
No flash suppressor and no bayonet lug. Functionally the same in every other way.
If it wasn’t so damned annoying, it would have been comical.

And in a related note, I heard this morning one the radio that one, that’s right, one, a gun store in NC recorded sales of $1M.
In one day.
I took a lunchtime stroll through Cabela’s today. Just looking around in amazement and watched as a guy paid $4,500 for the last 2 PINK CAMO AR’s.. The maker name escapes me. He asked if they had any others.. they had sold the last 2 Colt’s earlier that day.. His attitude.. “Well if that’s all you have.. I’ll take them..”
Insane is a good word for the sales going on.. And price creep is noticeable..
The other day my buddy said he would get that Mini-14 if he found a good deal. My exact words were, “I am guessing any deal you can get is a good deal right now.”
I “know a guy” who sold his AK (pre-ban Mak90) yesterday [with rights of first refusal] to a friend for $525. He’s using the money to purchase another Tac22 (Colt). He also bought 2500 more rds of 22 HV hollow points this morning. It was his wife’s gift to him for Christmas!
I was talking to a friend who is the dept manager for our local Wally world sporting goods. He ordered a special price 7.62x39mm (they match online ammo prices) and was sent 20,000 rds instead of 2,000. He sold all 20,000 rds in the last 2 days. All they had left for ammo was $9.97/225rds golden bullet (hollow point/high velocity 22lr). That’s a great price for the ammo.
My last ammo purchase? A thousand rounds of subsonic .22 shorts. Got the boy a .22 for Christmas.
