On ‘Why Nothing Will Change’…

Okay, this will not plumb the depths of social dis-unity in American society…

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to asking questions.

Why will our elected leadership never change our social security or Medicare systems?

1) Our citizens are dependent.

2) That is all. Nothing to see here. Go home.

Why do T.E.A. Party Conservatives (note the T.E.A. damnit!!!) constantly complain about cuts to social security & medicare?

1) They were sold a lie.

2) They bought the lie. Nothing to see here. Go home.

I have ‘friends’ and actual “friends” who have all proclaimed the same thing: “I paid into it”…. Damn it. We are lost as a nation. Not only will the political class NEVER do anything which endangers their career, but they won’t even cast a vote to save the republic from certain destruction (down the road) because they fear they won’t be politically viable in the next election cycle.

To be clear:

We have died-in-the-wool (“I have never needed to own a firearm but I just bought your AK47, magazines, and ammo”) conservatives who are all-but begging the federal government to keep pumping money into their  “retirement plan” social security & medicare.

It will NEVER be fixed, even though repairs could be made which protect these people. Politicians are cowards.

Our republic is doomed.

I’ve paid into unemployment as long as I’ve worked. I pay for obamaphone. I pay for the EBT cards. I subsidize healthcare by paying full price. I also pay for Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. Does that mean that I am entitled to all of these programs? Of course not. Why do the last two on the list become entitlements to even those with means otherwise?

I can understand Medicare to a point. Until we fix the healthcare system (allow individual citizens to purchase portable policies without penalty), Medicare seems to be the answer for retired folk.

I’m not expecting anything from either program because they won’t have means to provide it when I’m eligible, but I wouldn’t want it anyways. If we could abolish it, we’d all be better off.

The idea that you paid anything other than taxes that were used as a down payment on massive debt is delusional. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to familiarize him or herself with the word “fungibility”.

SS & Medicare were MANDATORY! We had to pay it, so stop this crap.

Meanwhile you completely ignore WELFARE where nothing was paid into and continues for generations and is greather then the military, SS & Medicare. Get your head out.

The govorment has NO obligation to pass out free money, but they made an obligation with mandatory paid for programs

Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme!! Like ALL such schemes it reaches a point when not enough new people are putting in money and it collapses. Now the government is seeking other “investors” (rich, wealthy, businesses, middle class,) to prop up their scheme for a while longer. In the mean time they are trying to lower the amount that they agreed to pay out when they suckered people into the ponzi scheme. The rich won’t get paid back, the payments won’t start until years latter than agreed on, they will take a larger portion back in the form of increased taxes to those receiving the payouts. Social Security should be scrapped and those responsible for it thrown in prison!!!

Those responsible for it are long-dead. There is no political will to fix it, because even the conservatives have been horn-swaggled. Since they’re hooked, they won’t push politicians to change things. Remember the Tea Party rallies? They were screaming for cuts to “everything but” the two most expensive, destructive outlays of the US govt – the Siamese twin elephants in the room.

All taxes are mandatory. That does not mean you get any benefit from them. Some of your local taxes will be used for your benefit and some of your federal taxes may also be used for less visible benefits like national security, but just because you are forced to pay taxes and somebody lied to you and said you would get something in return, does not mean you will actually realize a return.

    Shit happens.

    Get over it.

You know, Jim… I agree with you, but I can understand the uncertainty and frustration of those who have been paying in for 40+ years. Any rework needs to compensate for these people. Unfortunately, there won’t be any rework. The whole damned thing is going to collapse under it’s own weight before that ever happens.

I know that people are upset about this. I know that it is a very emotionally charged topic. But at some point we have to face the facts. The status quo is unsustainable. I don’t want to push grandma off the cliff, but dad’s gonna have to cowboy up.

In order to understand Social Security Administration and its existing operations, lets look at its history, shall we?
    Facts:
1)Social Security Cards issued in 1934, under FDR (remember, one year earlier he took the USA off a “Gold Standard”), up until 1980, expressly stated:
    a. Both number and card were NOT to be used for identification purposes.
b.Since everyone in the United States (since 1934) has a Social Security Card and number and a national ID soon became necessary, its usage soon caused it to become mandatory in order for citizens to conduct financial transactions.
    c. The printed message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was soon removed.

When Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
    -No longer Voluntary
2.) That participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
-Now 7.65% on the first $90,000
3.) That money participants elected to put into the Program, would be deductible from their income(s) for tax purposes each year,
    -No longer tax deductible
4.) That money participants put into the separate but independent. ‘Trust Fund’ (Al Gore’s now famous “Lock-Box”) rather than into the general operating fund, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, ONLY and no other Government program.
    – Under Johnson, a Democrat, the money was moved to The General Fund and Spent (mostly on “earmarks).”
5.) That annuity payments to retirees would never be taxed as income.
    – Under Clinton & Gore, Democrats, Up to 85% of citizen’s Social Security can be Taxed
Since many legal Americans have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month – a. are now finding they’re getting taxed on 85% of the money that was paid to the Federal government to ‘put it away in a non-existent “Lock-Box,”’ may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the independent ‘Trust Fund’ and put it into the general fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
    A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the ‘tie-breaking’ deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?
A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
NOTE: Immigrants moved to America and at age 65, applied for and began receiving Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
But the white catagory of voters, voting for Obama and continuation of THEIR entitlements, just can’t see these fleeting facts…their entitlements will literally “dry up!” Did in USSR, Third Reich, PIIGS and Japan. Its broke but white catagory of voters “don’t want their cow gored!” Sad. Pray. Amen.
