Preventing the Next Newtown? Not on the agenda…

According to the Washington Post, Obama’s plan for gun control consists of “regulations that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors.”

Would universal background checks have stopped Adam Lanza at Newtown? Nope. His mother passed background checks when she bought the weapons.

Would tracking the movement and sale of weapons through a national database have stopped Adam Lanza at Newtown? It is difficult to see how. His mother’s weapons were registered with the state of Connecticut.

Would strengthening mental health checks have stopped Adam Lanza at Newtown? Doubtful. Lanza had never been diagnosed with a mental illness and the weapons weren’t his to begin with.

Would stiffening penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors have stopped Adam Lanza at Newtown? Just sickening… If you are going to murder your mother and go on a killing spree in order to engage in a super-sized suicide, “stiffening penalties” for doing so is pointless.

The reality, of course, is that the gun grabbers aren’t really trying to stop the reoccurrence of Newtown. They are trying to limit access to guns. Period.
