Some time ago we heard about the Ploughshares Fund based in San Francisco. At the time I opined that any group named ‘The Ploughshares Fund’ should be ignored. I was wrong.
The fund’s website describes their goal this way: “Ploughshares Fund is a publicly supported foundation that funds, organizes and innovates projects to realize a world free from the threat of nuclear weapons”.
Today I learned that President Obama’s choice for Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel, is a Director of The Ploughshares fund.
The President addressed Hagel’s commitment to disarming the United States Military in his speech yesterday. Here is the President of The Ploughshares fund, Joe Cirincione, responding to Obama’s speech. He is obviously ecstatic that his group has been elevated and that their positions are being taken seriously in the oval office.
Obama made it plain in his speech that he intends to disarm America. The selection of Hagel, with his pacifist ties, shows that he is serious.
