Hair-Raising Video. This Is Not Cool.

I am a skeptic. I often defend joint operations between federal & local law enforcement. This is different. This is local law enforcement helping the Army practice for operations “overseas”.

Seeing local police participating with the the US Army in an American city made my blood run cold.

What say you? Acceptable or unacceptable? Nefarious operations or just inopportune timing, given the current social climate?

My buddy was a pilot in Task Force 160 and they have been doing this sort of thing for 20 years. You know, I never gave it a second thought in the past. He would tell me about it and it just sounded cool. When I would hear the stories, I would get a little jealous and regret having left the service. For years and years I felt nothing but positive pride at the training of our elite forces. I even heard about Miami training ops just like this one.

It was good training too. My buddy landed on a roof in Panama to rescue American prisoners held in the building during Operation Just Cause. His chopper was punched with bullet holes in the process. I was glad he had the realistic training and I was supportive of the way they did it.

I don’t feel that way anymore. Have things changed? Am I just more paranoid? Both?

See? I have – or should say – had no problem with the military doing exercises. Until recently, the specter of a domestic enemy reaching for absolute power seemed almost unthinkable.

The combination of active military and local police freaks me out.

A couple of things have changed. First I doubt that the choppers were shooting machine guns in the cities twenty years ago – blanks or not. Second the news about government agencies buying massive quantities of ammunition at the same time that our leaders talk about disarming law-abiding citizens is new.

I think it’s an attempt to intimidate the resistors. The Mexican police do the same thing at the beginning of Easter week. They parade all of their vehicles as well as the ambulances in formation through town at five mph. It’s a show of force. It works, too.

I am also suspicious about the training without warning the civilians. The, “Holy Shit” reaction in the video is real. If even the news media haven’t been warned, and are treating it as a scary event, it’s designed to frighten someone.

I’d wager that is dead on. No pun intended.
The despots are scared. The speed of info these days means everyone knows almost instantly. Despite the media NOT reporting on it.
Every time the bastards try to be sneaky, the voices of defiance get louder and louder. And I mean millions of voices. Probably tens of millions.
These tactics are pure attempts at intimidation. But, people are refusing to be intimidated.
As Bob Owens wrote, it’s not people stocking up to avoid a ban.
It’s a Nation preparing for war.

I would guess that someone in the chain of command is hopeing to scare someone enough as to get them to bunker in and shoot back! Just imagine that bellowing on the six o’clock news. It would sure put a rush on the Kenyans gun ban garbage. And we know how he likes a rush!

Looks like saber-rattling to me. Can’t remember the last time our gov had to play war games within a major metropolis like this. Maybe some subtle messaging going on here. Who do you think it’s for?

  3. notamobster says:

I don’t know that it’s “for” anything other than what they said in the video. It freaks me out, nonetheless.

I’m having trouble coming up with a good reason for the local police to actively participate in “overseas operations” exercises.

    • R.D. Walker says:

My buddy would say that the police weren’t training, they were just helping them train as a courtesy. He would say that SOCOM needs to train in realistic scenarios. I remember when he told me that they leased a Carnival cruise ship for a couple of days to do raids and rescue missions on it.

My point is that 20 years ago I wouldn’t have batted an eye when they did the exact same stuff. It makes me uneasy today. I used to trust the feds. Now, not so much.

The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Glad this hit the site. This scares the absolute shit out of me, just thinking of training in the cities if nothing else. Does any one else remember the movie “Blue Thunder”? What would make me fill my drawers would be if they included infantry and airbourn exercises with this. I believe they have done it in some places. At Fort Polk they have an ARAB village built for training. How many others do they have? How many of us would have been smart enough to see the danger when we were on Active Duty. Not me. I was one dumb grunt. Shit I went airbourn. Goes to show how smart I was. Just sayin'”It’s an Urban Training Session”.

    • Notamobster says:

I’m even less comfortable with the situation now. Thanks a lot, Tony! πŸ™‚

      • Tony says:

Nota.. I live about a 1/4 mile, as the crow flies, from the Tennessee River. Military jets used to routinely make unarmed supersonic bombing and ground attack runs up and down the river. These practice runs used the TVA Watts Bar Dam and surrounding hillsides and valleys as practice targets. I always thought it was cool as shit (and startling) to hear the sonic boom over my boat and look up or down river to see a speck of a jet moving away. Sometimes when we were lucky we could see them coming and watch them pass over and if they were supersonic feel and hear the boom. Unfortunately one jet crashed into a hilltop along the river bank and since that event I have not encountered anymore jets. I always enjoyed it. Never troubled me a bit. If they were happening now I would be worried. All because I do not trust my President. Ain’t that some shit? I do not trust an elected President of the United States.

I am gonna get out of here. A parasite has just be gunned to death by another parasite in downtown Chattanooga. I wanna see what the news has to offer. See if they will again act as if these guys were productive citizens who could have been saved by a little more gun control.

Given that any use of a firearm by law enfocement or military requires a ton of paperwork and supervision, I can’t help but wonder if this was really authorized.

  7. locke n load says:

Can I be the only one seeing an increase in this type of training in the last 5 years? Denver, Albuquerque, i think Salt Lake as well… many many towns in Texas and others I can’t remember.

I’m not really buying the ‘overseas simulation’ explanation for a couple of reasons. One, the cities they’re doing this in are filled with high rises and the african/middle eastern shitholes we actively engage are NOT. We have plenty of places more appropriate for these exercises which would work just fine. Two, even tho the police are there for ‘assistance’ they make NO sense in the foreign theater scenario unless we are counting on friendly govts helping us take down dissent. They only make sense to me in an urban combat NATO style european assault where the target had urban friendlies. It doesn’t make sense to me. At all. Three, they USED to announce these simulations to keep people from freaking out. I’d see something on the news saying ‘hey, don’t get panicked, this is going to happen and we need the streets clear’ or something to that effect. These days they seem intent on alarming the hell out of the population for some reason. Intimidation has many uses but I don’t know wtf they feel its needed against US. I can only presume they’re angling for psy-op benefits. It would make a hell of a lot more sense to let people know ahead of time so they don’t cause car wrecks, etc. Four, the increasing coordination between Feds and Locals has been more than just ‘support’ of maneuvers. Local police are arming up like the military, are aquiring drones, and are encouraged to see themselves as local arms of a federal force. This is NOT good. Local police MUST be independent, responsible to their local populations ONLY, or they won’t understand their proper allegiances. We elect them. They work for US, not the Feds, and when they forget that they start to resemble an occupying force. I don’t want a Federal force camped in my town. Ever. Period.

I can probably think of 10 more reasons off the top of my head but they all come back to the same thing in one way or another. The Feds are not only untrustworthy but becoming adversarial. They are increasingly pushing their authority into local business where they have neither the right nor need to be involved.
Again, we MUST start demanding our states stop taking funding for these ‘joint initiatives’, must demand our sheriffs pledge to ignore blatantly unconstitutional orders, and take back the authority for our own security. Deny the right of the Feds to intrude. Defund by refusing federal blood-money to ‘partner up’, and De-couple from the apparatus. Nullification isn’t a naughty word, its our salvation.
We need to start using it regularly. Forcefully.

  8. TimeHasCome says:

They always make sure they time it so it makes the news. The Fed knows our currency is about to fail. Trying to keep a lid on our cities cannot be done . Get out of dollars and switch to tangibles, especially food.
