Sequester might force Congress to fly commercial

Poor babies might lose door to door custom jet service.

Here’s what might be the most powerful incentive yet for members of Congress to come up with a deal to avert the sequester: the head of the Air Force today warned that the spending cuts that will go into effect March 1 could cause the military to eliminate those lovely miljet flights that lawmakers enjoy.

Members of Congress adore flying on Air Force jets, particularly for overseas trips — there are no security lines, check-in is a breeze, the service couldn’t be better, and it’s business class-only.

But if the government-wide cuts aren’t thwarted and the military has to pinch pennies, lawmakers might have to kiss those perks goodbye, Air Force Secretary Michael Donley told the crowd at the Air Force Association’s winter conference in Orlando, Fla., we’re told.

Those military jet flights separate our representatives from the common man. It creates elitism and insulates these people from listening to how their policies create hardship for us.

Not only should they fly commercial, they need to fly coach.

  2. R.D. Walker says:

In 2004, I flew coach from Chicago to DC and Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) was in the seat next to me. Grassley has his good and bad points, but he doesn’t seem like he was ever seduced by DC. He still seems pretty down to earth.

I say they put them all in Cessna 152s with penciled whipped inspection records..and let them buzz around the kingdom.

I think they should go by Greyhound. If the truth is known, most of them are on the no-fly list.

“I think they should go by Greyhound.”

    Agreed. Greyhound or Amtrak.

I flew to Baltimore one time with Charlie Gonzales (D-TX). It was on Southwest Airlines. I have little respect for his policies, but that impressed me.

I think all of the “representatives” of the people need to be exposed to the people. The only people worth protecting are the POTUS and VPOTUS. Beyond that, pull all their travel with the USAF and let them fly coach. Let them sit next to real people.
