We are back from our family spring break trip to see mom in Florida. The trip gave me a chance to play with my new Pentax K-1. I took this with it and a 55-300mm zoom lens. I was no closer than 20 feet from the bird. Click to enlarge.

  2. rj says:

Wow great detail, you must have steady nerves. I saved it to look at multiple times.

BTW that bird has a naturally angry appearance.

We had a beautiful day here. Blue sky, 49 degrees, and the snow is just about gone. The road is even drying up already from the mud bog it has been for the past two weeks. In contrast, here is a picture from March 29, 2014. Click full screen and zoom in to get a real feel for how deep it was. This is the legendary lake effect snow of the UP. 2013 and 2015 were about the same as the picture on the same date. Hopefully, I’m not speaking too soon, as last year we were still getting snowfalls of up to 6 inches in May.

Unbelievable, not a single word about the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch. I’m disappointed with the Real Revo.

    • Ben says:

?……We had commentary about his confirmation?

Where you expecting a play by play of him swearing in?

Maybe some pom poms and fireworks?

    • notamobster says:

I’m not sure if you meant his appointment, nomination, or confirmation, but both nomination & confirmation were covered here... During the nomination and the confirmation. We spoke at great length in comments about his nomination and there was never any question about his confirmation, which was also posted by RD on the 7th.

      • Ben says:

I think he wanted a post with the live stream of the swearing in and us all circle jerking about how liberty is saved and trump proves us wrong about everything with this single appointment.

        • notamobster says:

RJM is a good guy with solid, informed opinions who’s been around here longer than even me. Very bright and well informed. This was an important moment in history to him.

I don’t watch the news, so I didn’t even know it was happening.

  20. RJM says:

Gorsuch appointment to the Supreme Court is a big deal and may possibly be the most important conservative thing to happen in 8 years. So yes it does deserve fireworks.

Pom poms are for cheerleaders which is maybe something you know about.

    • notamobster says:

Oh, you mean the swearing in? That’s not really a big deal to me. Sorry. If I’d known anyone cared about the ceremony, I would have written about it.

    • Uke says:

Please tell me it’s not the swearing in you wanted a thread about. It’s a ceremony. It’s dog and pony show.

I care that he got confirmed, but the military has made me immune/negative on any and all dog-and-pony shows, to include a SCOTUS swearing in ceremony.

    • Bman says:

I think most people here are pleased with Trump’s pick. There have been several articles written about Gorsuch on here in the past. We all knew he was going to be appointed. I am quite pleased. I figured nobody wrote about it because it was a given.

I see where you are coming from though. However, by the time we posted it, it would’ve been a similar scene like this…

So I just pulled a couple hours doing security for a Texas Senator town hall meeting. About 250-300 people. He did a draw the number from a bowl for choosing who could ask questions.
Approx 20 questions asked and answered in the hour,
hot topics: defunding the EPA will equal disaster and we will all be drinking flynt michigan style water.
Co2 in the atmosphere will kill us all (OMG people actually believe that shit)
    Obammycare good, Trumpcare not good
Planned Parenthood does not use federal funds to pay for abortion and they are not this nations, and likely the worlds largest abortion provider…. jeez there really are idiots out there
Trump needs to release tax returns.
cry me a river, I had a preexisting condition and obammycare saved my life….

So yesterday I pulled a security gig for a local republican senator town hall, audience was stacked with paid democratic question askers.
Topics, federal funding for planned parenthood cause they don’t use fed funds to pay for abortions.
Climate change, globull warming caused by co2, yea idiots really believe that shit.
EPA defunding because without a massive regulation creating department we’d all be drinking flynt michigan water.
    Obammy care vs trump care
and term limits cause elections dont keep politician from being there forever even if they are doing a shit job and their local populace keeps reelecting them.

If politicians hear that shit from people all the time at their town hall meetings it is no wonder they think the average American is a idiot who will buy anything they are selling.

Somewhere, I’m not sure where, we slipped into a parallel universe where South Park episode plot lines are reality.

I was smack in the middle of South Park’s target, high school age demo when it first came out, so I took to it. As time went on, it lost its new car smell and I stopped caring about it.

But I will say this: I have recently gained a newfound appreciation for South Park. The creators and writers really are exceptionally equal opportunity in target selection, which is to say, they’ll make fun of anything and everything, including leftists, SJWs, ecowarriors and entitled Hollywood actors.

I appreciate that. They dish it out to everyone, and nothing is sacred to them.

It may very well be that it’s comedians that’ll end up saving us from political correctness and even the outright censorship movement that we’re seeing today.

    Anyway, random thoughts.

Crows and humans have a complicated relationship with death. Seeing just a single crow is considered an omen of bad luck. Finding two crows, however, means good luck.
