Castro’s Declaration of Mourning for Bishop – 10/20/1983


The Council of State, in pursuance of the powers vested in it, has resolved to issue the following


FIRST: To declare three days of official mourning starting at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow for the death of Grenadian Prime Minister Comrade Maurice Bishop, that occurred yesterday afternoon.

SECOND: That the national flag be flown at half-mast in all public buildings and military establishments for the duration of the official mourning.

THIRD: The Ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Foreign Affairs are instructed to see to it that the provisions of this Decree are complied with.

ISSUED at the Palace of the Revolution, Havana, October 20, 1983.
