Reminds me of the times when as a younger man, I would eat donuts. I would run a vertical pencil through about 6 or 7 so I could eat them one at a time. What this has to do with penguins, I haven’t a clue.

  2. R.D. Walker says:

Didn’t you see the penguin on the tarmac? I thought that was a huge and hilarious non sequitur.*

*Second time I said “non sequitur” today.

  3. Nobody says:

Penguin? What penguin? I didn’t even notice the helicopter.

  4. notamobster says:

The penguin obviously has a grievance to file after being left out by that group of owl enthusiasts.

  5. Locke n Load says:

Damn but we ARE men, you could have bet me $100 there was a penguin on the tarmac and I would have called you nuts. All I saw was hooters, er legs, damnit I mean a Helicopter, I saw a helicopter.

  6. R.D. Walker says:

Okay, so the man over reacted a little… just a little mind you.

TEMECULA, Calif. — An angry father is accused of using a stun gun on a 23 year old man who sent his 17 year old daughter an explicit cell phone picture.

William Atwood Sr., 45, was charged Wednesday with multiple felonies in connection with the case.

Authorities say Atwood lured Justin Moore to his home, ordered him to strip down to his boxer shorts, and tied him up and tased him with a stun gun before turning him over to a sheriff’s deputy.

Moore told authorities he sent a photo of his genitals to several friends, including Atwood’s daughter, as a joke.

Atwood apparently didn’t think the joke was funny when his daughter told him about the picture in January.

According to court records, Atwood called the Sheriff’s Department saying that Moore sent pornography to a child.

Vanagram, do you have any brothers in Temecula, CA?

I have to turn to people in the know. I heard on the radio that the latest insurgency by Al Qaeda is named “Al Fuckah” which translates to “The Victory”. I’m just wondering who ripped off whom in the translation department. It was an am station.

  13. Locke n Load says:

well THAT would be interesting, lol. Only thing close to that I know is Al Fakah, and oil well complex on disputed land. Iran claims it as well as iraq.

  14. notamobster says:

falah (obviously transliterated)is the arab word for success

the group fatah is an acronym (reverse due to arabic reading right to left) – like fath . . . it’s pronounced fah – tuh (very short, almost imperceptible “u”) the word fath (reverse acronym) is arabic for victory.

There is also the surah of qur’an called “nasr” meaning victory. Names like nasrallah and nasser are both variants of victory, one implying allahs providence.

Maybe I’m completely full of shit.

Im getting sick of NHL hockey. I swear its turning into soccer. Here we are, the Stanley Cup finals for Christs sakes and every 4 minutes the refs call penalties? BULLSHIT! In the not so distant past, you had to stab someone to get a penalty. Im all for powerplays and so forth, but watching powerplays for 10 minutes of a 20 minute period? Fucking SUCKS! And Ive just found out that USA Hockey is taking out body checking at the peewee level next year. Peewees are around 12-13 year olds. If you cant take a hit, go play fucking soccer. Im getting sick of the pussification of our country.

Its amazing what folks got away with back in the day.

Wings….. Grrr…. Better the Hawks than Philly I guess. In this ‘everyone gets trophy society of ours’ I guess it was their turn.

I remember reading an article a while back about how to make your husband happy when he comes home. That ‘being her job’ she shouldn’t concern him with her petty trivialities, but rather make him a hot meal, pour him a drink, and satisfy his appetites.

    Hahahaha!!!!!

  26. Van-a-gram says:

THis (I think) is what Nota is referring to. It’s the text from a Good Housekeeping Article back in the 50′s:

    The Good Wife’s Guide

    * Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, and on time, for his return. This is a way of letting him know you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favorite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.

    * Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you will be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair, and be fresh looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

    * Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

    * Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives.

    * Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper etc and then run a dustcloth over the tables.

    * Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

    * Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children’s hands and face (if they are small), comb their hair, and if necessary change their clothes. They are little treasures, and he would like to see them playing the part. Mimimize all noise. At the time of his arrival eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vaccuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.

    * Be happy to see him.

    * Greet him with a warm smile, and show sincerity in your desire to please him.

*Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first. Remember- his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

    * Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late, or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be home and relax.

    * Your goal: try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

    * Don’t greet him with complaints and problems.

    * Don’t complain if he comes home late for dinner or if he even stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.

    * Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair, or lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

    * Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

    * Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgement, or integrity. Remember he is the master of the house, and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

    * A good wife always knows her place.

VANAGRAM: Ah, the good old days, stay out all night, don’t ask any questions, and put more ice in my damn drink. Remember, I am the master and you are not to question me or bother me with your trivialities.

  27. notamobster says:

    That’s it! Very funny!

My wife told me to get a mail-order bride if I want that kind of treatment!

  28. Bman says:

Christ! What the hell kind of work did people do back in the 50′s that would inspire an article like this? I mean, really? With the treatment that this article suggests the wife do for the husband, you would think his job was juggling vials of bubonic plague. Now that would be a stressful job! If a person comes home and expects this kind of treatment from his wife because of his stressful day at work, I say it’s time to find a new job.

I never once saw June Cleaver pour Ward a drink. But I did hear her tell him that he was a little hard on the Beaver last night…HA!

  29. slaphappypap says:

That list of “wife duties” is amazing. I don’t think I ever read that in Mrs Slap’s Cosmo’s in the bathroom.

I’m not saying a thing. My wife knows where I sleep.

  31. John B. says:

Just a suggestion to anyone thinking it would be funny to print Van’s wife guide off and give to their wife. Don’t!

  32. Locke n Load says:

    * Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.”

Hmmm. I understand the rest of that list was maybe a bit old fashioned but THIS. This seems pretty forward thinking if you ask me :) Who’da thunk Good Housekeeping was so liberated back then? Suggesting a threesome would be what, 20 yrs ahead of their time?

Despite all that they have done, the White House continues to make my jaw drop with their amazing self-unaware arrogance:

White House, Gulf State Senator Slam BP Chief’s Attendance at UK Yacht Race

“President Obama’s chief of staff and a Gulf state senator ripped BP chief executive Tony Hayward for taking time off Saturday to attend a glitzy yacht race around England’s Isle of Wight as oil spewing into the Gulf continues to wreak havoc on the environment and wildlife.

Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff, said Hayward has committed yet another in a ‘long line of PR gaffes’….”

I agree totally. Nothing would be more irresponsible than to have a leader off golfing sailing while a disaster occurs. (or attending barbecues, or fundraisers, or off on vacation, or throwing parties, or hobnobbing with celebrities, etc.)

  51. Jim 22 says:

    dsgonzale6,

You sound like you are fifteen years old. We were having a nice discussion here and you come by and insult everyone with,
“Comments are open and generally unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Real Revo. Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted.”

–translation: Anyone not toeing the far right wingnut line will be excommunicated and their remarks scrubbed.”

Is that how you define ‘Replying in kind to what I get’?

This blog is open to anybody who does not need to be rude, abusive, or hateful. If you have to be any or all of the above there are lots of blogs out there which specialize in name calling. You might be happier there.

You are encouraged to take part in these discussions but taking part means adding something. Drive-by insults add nothing.

There is a phenomenon in American society called ‘Having a discussion’. Discussing things is the adult way to explore other’s ideas and, sometimes, learn something. That is what we are doing here.

Admittedly sometimes the discussion gets silly or wanders into areas that you might disagree with. In the time I have been on earth I have learned that from time to time the subjects that I disagree with are the ones I learn the most from.

If you want to be abusive or childish you should look for venues more suited to your preferences. If you want to be polite and add something I’d like to converse with you.

  52. dsgonzale6 says:

Jim22: Yesterday, someone (I will not characterize that person for purposes of this response) posted the web address for this site on the comments section to a major metropolitan newspaper. I navigated to this site, and after reading a bit, left a couple of comments. I saw a response to one of my comments seeking attention from RD, and shortly thereafter, my access was terminated. I wrote a note protesting the action to RD on this group’s YouTube account, and this morning checked this site from another computer. It appeared that my comments from yesterday were deleted, so I thought my comment above was merited, notwithstanding RD’s denial. Further, in response, I got called a dipshit and a moonbat troll, so I responded in kind. As such, your criticism of my comments are not well taken. On the other hand, I did notice that at least one other comment I posted yesterday was not removed, so I am prepared to engage in civil discussion as long as you guys are, regardless of our political disagreements.

  53. R.D. Walker says:

Your comments were not deleted. They are still here. They were simply graffiti. If you want to join the discussion, you will not be deleted or blocked. If it is your goal to just clutter up the forum with insulting one-liners, you will be both deleted and blocked.

    Your comments are here.

  54. dsgonzale6 says:

As I said, I did see at least one comment that hadn’t been deleted, so I acknowledge that I was wrong about that. However, I was blocked, so I wasn’t wrong about that, and so I still feel my comment above about excommunication (a word I use advisedly) still pertains.

As for my other comments, we have a difference in opinion about their merits and validity. I thought they were fair, if short, responses to the ideas being expressed. To the extent that people here feel free to demonize people whose political opinions they disagree with (e.g., calling them evil), they are open game for others to give them a taste of their own medicine, in my view. Notwithstanding Jim22′s insult about my comment, which I felt deserved explanation on my part, his invitation to discussion seemed sincere, and you will note that my response was measured in kind.

What all of you seem to fail to understand is that people can disagree with your views without being radical leftists. My own views are moderate, and I despise extremism of all stripes. It is interesting to me that the responses that were made to my pithy snark all presumed I was on the left. There is where your side’s weakness lies. To be frank, the vast middle is full of people like me, who think the far left and the far right are wrong.

  55. R.D. Walker says:

I will unblock the IP you posted from yesterday.

The vast middle of the Bay Area may be full of people like you, for sure.

We, on the other hand, are from places like Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, Michigan, Iowa and Colorado and the vast middle of America is full of people like us.

  56. Jim22 says:

    dsgonzale6,

Thank you for replying. First, I must say that this blog is anashamedly conservative but with libertarian leanings.

Our experience here has been that we are ocasionally visited by people who hold different views. Because of this some of us have developed a thin skin and a tendency to stereotype those who discover our corner of the world and leave some unpleasant name-calling comment.

I must say that I did not see your first posts. Sounds like you are open to a little open discussion. I apologize for saying that you sound fifteen years old. My excuse is that I only reacted to the later, unpleasant uploads.

I, for one, hope that you stick around. I don’t care if you believe in conservative principles. The only thing I think is necessary is civility.

I’d like to say a couple more things:

    1. Give us a chance. We may not agree politically but in this political climate I think it is better to be curious than reject the other’s point.

There used to be a term that everyone understood. That term was ‘Wisdom’ Wisdom is the continued learning that happens after school. It represents the difference between the rules we were taught and the real world. Old people were credited with wisdom because of the experience they had acquired. Today the conventional ‘wisdom’ is that young people can know it all. We reject that.

    2. The world is a complex place. We are continually subject to pieces of news that may – or may not – be correct. This site has spent a lot of energy pointing up the news which is not facts, but instead biased. The way we do this is that we argue facts. Someone will post a news item which he or she believes to be biased. Others comment. Everyone has a little different take, and that is okay.

Much of it is opinion, but from a conservative/libertarian vantage point.

I am not the webmaster. I speak for me only, but I invite you to explore what is happening here. I think it will be good for you and I think it will be good for the rest of us.

  57. R.D. Walker says:

Jim, I am the webmaster because I have the keys to the code. I speak only for myself here as well.

  58. dsgonzale6 says:

    Fair enough. Thanks.

  59. Jim22 says:

    dsgonzale6,

If you come back once in a while we might have a spirited discussion of ….just about anything.

You are not a drive-by commenter. You have the curiosity necessary to continue to wonder about what others think. I applaud that.

  60. Bman says:

dsgonzales6- do not take my juvenile “dip shit” comment as a reflection to this site. This blog is one of the most outstanding blogs I have visited both left and right leaning, where people can have good, thoughtful conversations and discussions. There are some damned smart folks here! (I exclude myself).

As far as blogs go, I would say the regulars here are a close group, and have no problems sticking up for each other.

Personally, If you are looking for an honest discussion on subject matters here, even though you may disagree with certain views, I would welcome that. Just my 2 cents.

  61. dsgonzale6 says:

    Sounds good.

  62. jacksonsdad says:

Oh yeah, this is the one who drew the parallel between us and the taliban. I notice he capitalized ‘taliban’….I wonder if he capitalizes God and America too.

I must say, I really enjoy insights like this…

“There is where your side’s weakness lies”

I can’t wait to learn more.

  63. Locke n Load says:

David, before we go any further I should tell you it was ME who pulled those two comments down. Not because I didn’t want to hear your point of view but because they were so damned juvenile. I pulled exactly 2 down, both short, pointless, and petty. Seemed like graffiti to me and I wasn’t expecting you to return. You’ll notice I left the others alone except for my retorts.

You’ll find Jim and RD are both much more tolerant than I at times. While I won’t pull any more of your posts I also won’t accept the snide (no, not pithy, snide) comments without feeling obligated to respond. Like you said, “I reply in kind to what I get.” BTW, does “Me = pearls
You = you know the rest” qualify as pithy as well?

Look man, we actually DO welcome opinions not like our own here. Hell, we love the debate. Just do us a favor, ok? Don’t assume you’re dealing with idiots here. You’ve walked into a room full of VERY accomplished, well educated, and decent people. Behave yourself and you will get respectful responses.

  64. Locke n Load says:

Btw Dave, I applaud your insistence on returning under a new guise and new computer, lol. Clever. I hope that means you’d like to actually participate ;)
