The tenth anniversary of 9/11 should not be remembered by Americans with maudlin self-pity. This off topic thread brought to you by the way in which Revoistas should remember 9/11. It is NSFW.

Have a question for my fellow Revoistas. This same question that has both my wife and my son pissed at me tonight.

How could a hand full of Muslims take over a plane of 250 people with box cutters? Were there no men on board those planes?

Would you sit idle during that time while a few Arabs with razors hijacked those planes?

Pisses me off to no end.

  2. RJM says:

OK gang, rather than cringing around worring about cowardly attacks against innocent victims, let’s make it a day every year that our military pulls of a major attack on the bushwackers in rembrance of our 9/11 victims.

Instead of waiting for the enemy to bring it, let’s take it to the them every year on 9/11 and let them be afraid because they know we are coming but don’t know where!

  3. R.D. Walker says:

They took them over because the people on the first three planes believed that the best way to deal with hijackers was to cooperate. That is what people had been taught by history. It was the right strategy as far as anyone on the planes were concerned.

The people on Flight 93 learned otherwise and quickly adapted to the new reality and did what they had to do.

Nobody will ever sit still for Arabs with razors again.

  4. BaconNeggs says:

Thank you for that RD, because thats exactly the way I have been feeling about this 10th Anniversary coverage so far. How many times can they show the same loop of the jet planes striking the buildings and the building collasping? And all this talk about “a terrible tragedy”, you’d think it was an earthquake and not Islamic Jihad.

I agree with RJM, 9-11 should be a time when we put on, one hell of a fireworks show.

    Die MFer die!

  5. SiliconDoc says:

Like RJM’s idea, but suspect the rules of engagement being in the derangement that they are will shield any success of the sort from all public civilian eyes and ears.

Won’t be watching any pitiful displays around the two square defeatist grave holes they dug in place of the towers – I can’t even believe how disgusting it is – how pathetic it is – their little water walls of dark greyish putridity. What a loser setup that is.

  6. RJM says:

Military targets only. No publicity after the attacks. Bold decisive de-moralizing attacks on terrorists every September 11. Make them know that we will not tolerate their attempts to terrorize us or out friends.

How do you know when you’ve defeated them?

When 1 terrorist shoots another because of fear of apprisals for there potential actions.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  7. Slaphappypap says:

I smoked two pork shoulders for 12 hours today.

    **ck you Al-Qaeda.

  8. Locke n Load says:

Good for you slap. I smoked 3 huge slabs of ribs and we finished every little bit.

  9. R.D. Walker says:

Pork shoulders, huh? I went to Menards in Cedar Rapids on 9/11 and saw, but didn’t purchase, pork butt. I suspect it would be very easily smoked… two or three push-ups at most and it would be completely smoked.

    Click to greatly enlarge.

    The terrorists have obviously won.

  10. Locke n Load says:

    Booooooooo

  11. vanagram says:

Does Menards really ‘deliver on your dreams 7 days a week?’

  12. D2A says:

    @ vanagram

    LOL!

  13. DarthJay says:

I’m with you, Doc…I think the 9/11 memorial could have been way better done than running some water in the foundations of the towers.

The only justification would be that Bin Laden’s “burial at sea” was throwing his ass into one of the fountains tied to a slab of bacon.

  15. R.D. Walker says:

Hey, remember last Thursday night after Obama’s “Pass-the-Bill” speech when I said this?

That little speech should be good for a 500 point drop in the market tomorrow.

It didn’t fall 500 on Friday. It fell about 300 on Friday and over 200 on Monday. Obama’s speech took two days to knock 500 off the market, not one. I stand corrected.

  16. sortahwitte says:

How much longer will the republicans/conservatives etc. continue to run to these kinds of “debates”? Run by msnbc, cnn, and other meaningless acronyms? Do they actually think they will get fair questions to determine who they are and what they believe? The moderators are too busy trying to hold up to ridicule everyone taking part. Sure, it’s entertaining for dims, but that’s not saying much. All it does is piss me off.

The Revoistas need to host a presidential debate. With the boatload of talent and intelligence shown by readers and writers on this site, The questions will better than anyone, outside of us, could ever hope for. Dims all over the country and in many cemeteries would be voting repub for the first time. And if the debate gets serious, Brad could set us up a ring. SE Oklahoma rules, of course. Which means no rules. Well, knives are OK, but no pistols.

  17. notamobster says:

I kinda like what Newt’s doing with his soapbox (at the debates).

  18. R.D. Walker says:

Sigh… It is night in America now.

  19. sortahwitte says:

I would like to share some information about drinking and driving.

I was out with some friends a short time back and I’m afraid I had too much to drink. I realized it, so for the first time in my life, I took a bus home. I arrived home safely and without incident, which was a surprise as I have never driven a bus before.

  20. Locke n Load says:

    Bwahahahahahaha!

  21. RJM says:

I don’t like the tone of the debates.

The Republicans need to get their act together and bring the fight to the Democrats et al.

I like what Newt is saying and what they need to focus on. I don’t think he’s electable, but he makes some very good points that I don’t hear from anyone else.

The other candidates look like they are being petty with cheap shots at each other.

  22. R.D. Walker says:

I think it is evident that it will soon be a two man race between Romney and Perry. The rest are just accessories to that reality.

    Palin is the wild card.

  23. Bman says:

The best comment I’ve seen today-

  24. jacksonsdad says:

Felt silly today and submitted a question for the 9/22 debate. Mostly it’s just a rant (what else is new) and it goes way too long but… they’re not gonna use it anyway so… I lobbed ‘em a softball a la Brian Williams vs. Obama.

    Check it out…

  25. locke n load says:

Evey now and then I just need a taste of Chicago…

Jim and Gail, just made up a monter stuffed pizza for the family… my GOD these things are good.

Sorta…ever had a chicago stuffed? I know you like to cook so I took pics of the process, can post the ‘recipe’ if youd like. Just need to get the pictures uploaded

  26. sortahwitte says:

I used to get stuffed pizza down on the loop. A little bar turned out the best ones I have ever eaten. Of course when you walked in, everyone turned around and stared at you. I would just stand there, not moving and eventually the conversation would start up again. Loved it. They had a coal fired oven.

Yes, I would love the recipe! Thanks.

You CAN use low moisute lowfat cheese if you like btw.
If you DO, use a little salt in the cheese and absolutely do NOT forget the provalone. Lowfat cheese doesn’t have half the flavor of real whole milk mozz.
using whole miolk will give you some whey at the bottom of the pie, lowfat will avoid that so if you want a mushroom pie you beeter precook the shrooms or use lowfat.

  34. locke n load says:

Oh, and block whole milk mozz is better than buffalo balls. WAY too much moisture in that stuff.
Walmart mozz blocks are only about $3 for a pound

    Random thought:

I think it’s odd that Solyndra investigations ramped up to redline in a matter of days. Why is that funny? Because we were told that the S&P investigation was in play for years before it finally “hit” right after they downgraded us.

We were told that the S&P investigation was just “bad timing,” that federal investigations really take a long time to play out.

We were also told that the the administration had no idea that Solyndra was an empty shell while they were pumping Stimulus money into it.

Something doesn’t smell right here. Or am I wrong?

Read that link. Then search for the Feds comments on us “printing trillions” if needed, then segue back into the foreclosure news that broke yesterday. We’ll go into it next week assuming nothing completely wacky upends everything in the meantime.

Sorta, did you try that pizza yet? Curious to know how it turned out for a total newbie. After making that vid I realized it was aimed at kitchen people who’ve MADE pizzas before, not really the genmeral public. Hope that didn’t leave too many holes in the instructions so you couldn’t make one properly.

Btw, if anyone finds this in their specialty beer joint, I’ve found a damn fine new beer while parked here at the Seattle zoo. Lagunitas IPA.

LnL! WOW, pizza, WOW. Just magically delicious! We didn’t mean to eat it all in one day. Oh well.

The instructions were great. What questions I had were answered by the pix. Bought the dough at pizza the hut. It worked great. I copied your ingredients, but canadian bacon for pepperoni. I could actually taste the provalone in the cheesy layer. Great experience. You were exactly right. I had never had stuffed, only deep dish. No comparison. We used a springform pan and it worked great. Sprayed inside lightly with olive oil flavored Pam. No stickee. And the sauce. Oh my! It could be used over spaghetti or any pasta. Delish!

If you love pizza, you guys and dolls need to make one of these. Thank you, LnL. You are a chef and a gentleman. And we loved the pix of your sweeties digging in.

  74. TN_Cat says:

Next time Sorta, you have to make your own dough. My Dad started me in baking our family bread, (a lot cheaper). And oh so good.

We get invited to dinners just to bring the bread. It is a lot of fun to make and so damn easy. Makes the meal.

  75. Locke n Load says:

    glad you liked sir!
there are quite a few vaiations on that theme i havent shown anyone but a few folks in pizza joints. the sauce can be modified to fit the fillings as you might imagine…
the sauce itself is beyond basic. the olive oil just highlights the soft acidity of the tomatoes and the shallots can be subbed by powder (but you know the real things better, lol). garlic brings out the acid, onion sweetens it, so always go light on onion. you can eliminate it if you use fresh tomato sauce.
no salt, no sugar, just great.

glad you used a springform, works best for amateurs trying to remove the pie.
next time try it with low moisture mozzand let it sit for 5 minutes b4 cutting…the pieces will actually stand up instead of oozing everywhere :)

i dont know if Slap goes for them (south siders are fond of ultra thin crust, yum) but he has access to giordano’s. hopefully he’ll try it and compare them. to be perfectly honest, i thnk mine is better but the crust really makes a difference

  76. Locke n Load says:

TN, i’d give you a dough recipe but really, if you dont have hard red wheat flour and 24 hrs to age the doughball its almost not worth it. I modify a sicilian thincrust dough for a 24 hr ripening and it works well but even the best recipe wont work right without the right flour and yeast. Cake yeast, only thing worth a damn IMHO

  77. Slaphappypap says:

Locke, if you have any ideas for making dessert with apples let me know. (Besides pie). Bought a ton of apples this weekend in Michigan.

  78. Locke n Load says:

Damn man, theres only a 1000 things to do with apples…why not variations ON a pie? Why limit yourself to a pie pan? Make a pastry dumpling or a struedel?
Apple “slop” is a lot like cobbler but twice the sugar, ever make and freeze large tarts? You can make apple bars like you might make lemon squares, or cakes…

Think nuts, caramel, chocolate, cinnamon, or cherries. Why not apple cinnamon swirl bread with a big glob of ice cream and caramelized pecans on top?

Seriously, you want me to go on?

  79. Locke n Load says:

Caramel apple pecan ice cream, baked apples flambe, Flan with baked caramelized apple, rum spiced apple cider…

Do you know how to make Walker Brothers Apple Pancakes? The enormous baked german pancakes? Say no if you’ve never had them, don’t fake it…I can tell you how to do it. I make these for the kids every couple months and they disappear instantaneously

  82. Slaphappypap says:

I don’t want you to go on. It’s Mrs. Slap that doesn’t know what to do with them. You know how women can’t make up their mind. (Sorry, Revo Ladies) I’d prefer pie or struedel. The world may end this week.

  83. Locke n Load says:

Sorta, I haven’t even BEGUN to describe tomato sauce. Don’t get me started, really. I’ll bore everyone to tears. Lets just say there is a HUGE difference between brands in the stores and only resturant supply houses get the best italian tomato pastes and purees. if you have any VERY serious italian deli’s in your area, go make friends is all I can say. Giordanos is a damn good pizza joint in Chicago that has gone national to some degree. Damn good stuffed pizzas buut mines better.

  84. Locke n Load says:

Ok Slap, listen up. You have a bushel of apples and a wife with options. Your only real plan is to give her JOBS to do with it or she’ll be driving you nuts for a week about wasting them.

    that said.

Tomorrow night have something like an apple flan for desert. Saturday morning make her and yourself a big puffy apple pancake then make and freeze a dozen non-cooked dumplings.
Do the same with a couple dutch apple pies. Then grind some up and make apple cake to freeze and pulp a bunch for apple-rum cider while you nosh on that amazing apple cake I linked to. I’ve had it. Its outstanding and NOT hard.

An apple flan would be simple really, just add this to the bottom of the flan pan before you add the custard and put it on the oven:

Thin slice (2mm) the apples. Butter up a pan with a GOOD SIZE glob of butter, melt it and dust with clove and cinnamon, thens plash a bit of spiced rum into the mix. After it comes to a bubble again, add a few Tb of sugar, stir to melt, then the apple slices. Saute for a minute and remove when barely softened. Really, only about a minute.
place in the bottom of the flan pan or ramakins, cover with custard, and bake.

Simple. Want to get obscene about it, drizzle vanilla infused heavy cream around the plated flan…

Want the german apple pancake recipe?
Maybe I should do it in an email, lol. Wouldn’t want to bore everyone.

Yes Sir! I’m off all week. The apples will keep us busy.

Sorta, The apples are pretty fantastic. It’s so much better than buying them in the grocery stores in the city. I did happen to hammer some micro brews in Berrien County. The found an IPA and a cocoa stout that is pretty fantastic.

  87. Locke n Load says:

Slap, hyou know how to reach me. I’ll send you the pancake recipe to wherever you like. Its really just a version of a Dutch Baby..you can find the recipes everywhere. the trick is to use the lightest batter you can find and to know the proper technique for cooking it. Details count in baking.

Doc, appreciate the praise but my skills are comparatively rudimentary. Had I more time I would have actually included video but it seems to have worked out well enough :) The girls DID enjoy. Very much. Those pizzas never last longer than it takes to get them out of the pan.

  88. notamobster says:

Slap: Please, please, try my apple butter, apple pie:

peel, core and slice (various thicknesses, i.e. wedges to slivers) 5 lbs (before peeling, coring, etc)of appples your favorite pie apples.

Peel, core, and set aside 4 granny smiths.

Place the pie apples in the crock pot on high for 1 hour with:

(mix together 2tbsp of corn starch and 1/2 cup of water – splash of lemon juice)
    4 cups of white sugar
    2 tsp of ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp of ground clove
    1/4 tsp of salt

While that is starting – GRATE the granny smiths. Put them into the crockpot for the last 1/2 hour.

Then, turn the heat to low and cover for the day (8hrs or more)leaving a gap for steam to escape (for the apple butter to reduce). Very Gently – stir (occasionally) to prevent sticking.

Make or buy a pie crust. Fill it with the wonderful filling and cook it – as you would any apple pie.

Top with cool whip and slap anyone who tries to eat it.

  89. notamobster says:

You can do the same thing, faster, for those who refuse to wait.

apples, cinnamon, clove, allspice, white sugar, 8qt saucepan.

1/2 cup water – 2tbsp of corn starch – mixed

boil water, cornstarch, apples, cinnamon on high for 1/2 hour or so.

turn to low heat add in seasonings to taste. slow and low for an hour or so. let cool and insert into pie crust.

Grated granny smiths provide a touch of tartness when used with other apples.

Holy cow….that sounds like apple overdose! I’d have to have icecream with that. Just to make sure every artery hardened simultaneoulsy of course.
Actually, it kinda reminds me of the original american aple pie, Marlboro Apple Pie. Applesauce pie.

It’s incredible, sir…if you like apple pie and apple butter.

cover the pie with carmelized pecans (rolled in sugar) and you’ve got yourself a winner.

Looks to me like the msm and the republican elite will have another McCain fest this time around.
    http://www.ronpaul.com/2011-09-17/ron-paul-wins-california-straw-poll-with-44-9/
This will be the second time that people would have voted in Ron Paul if the powers that be would allow it.
(I’m not a Ron Paul voter but I certainly can see what is going on)

  93. SiliconDoc says:

Rick Perry, Al Gore’s former chief of staff in Texas, is now the msm declared front runner.
Next to he we have the lib flopping Mitt Romney of Taxachussets, whose claim to fame is state Romneycare and a proftable Olympics, and the lesser known corporate raider investment bagman with downsizing teeth of steel.

So we have a wonderful 2 “reformed big government lefties” choice on the republican side.
Thank you MSM for choosing, and for the top down big government pig republican powers going along to get along or loving it or having their consultant strategy or being infiltrated by communists, who knows, I don’t.

So when Bush was potus, the liberals had frontpage attacks on Bush for the “poor conditions” at Walter Reed hospital – it went on forever, demands were made while mega million dollar upgrades were jammed through after the Bush bashing blood was all but dried up.
Now under Obama, Walter Reed is shutting down, closing, and not a peep is heard.

LNL. Do share please. I’ll find the flour. Love to try anything new.

  96. vanagram says:

Is this the Revo? I think I have the URL right…but baking at 350 for 45 minutes? Lightly dusting flour on the pan? Vanilla infused cream….?

Shit, I don’t know. But I think we’ve been hacked by the Barefoot Contessa or something.

  97. Slaphappypap says:

Good Morning Revo. This is my fault. I’ve destroyed the “Off Topic” section. I’m making breakfast now.

  98. DarthJay says:

Van — this is the “Queer Eye for the Revo Guy” segment of the off-topic section…lol

  99. Bman says:
