reminds me of a book my mom just sent me for my 50th, all about stuf that was happening the year of my birth…pretty cool.

The wife text me today from Target “need anything?”
Since my disposable razor has been on its last cartridge for a while and its starting to pull a bit, I said yeah, get me a razor, whatever is on sale.
She brought home this Gillette Fusion. This sumbitch has seven blades! My last pack from a year ago had three.
At this rate, next year it’s going to take two hands to shave.
Then this is dated. You will like it anyway, TN.
oh my GOD that was good RD. I hurt..

I have the fusion too. I use it about twice a month. Who has time to shave anyway?
In other news, I was in the grocery store today to hear in the check-out line an elderly women and the women running the register. The women said that it was silly that she bought about $26.00 worth of groceries and she didn’t even buy meat. The clerk said she got mad after filling her gas tank. (That’s $4.40 a gallon in the Chi.)
If women are pissed off more, and more vocal. How long can it last??

RD, I was watching exactly that sight rolling north thru Las Vegas then up into a place 70 miles from anything in the northeast Nevada desert. Seeing that right over the tops of the mountains was pretty sweet. Damn but I need a real camera.
I spent the better part of today rolling thru Idaho on my way up us95. It follows about 3 rivers north thru scenery that you might never forget. 250 miles of no straightaways longer than a mile or so, 2-3 feet of shoulder, and canyon after canyon filled with trout waters. Out of all the areas I run thru in the NW, its the only one that reminds me of British Columbia.

Anyone seen The Hungry Games yet? I didn’t know it had such a huge following in the book series. As a matter of fact, I never heard of the books. From what I understand, it takes place in a dystopian future and, according to the trailer I watched on youtube, resembles the storyline of The Running Man, which I enjoyed. I’m intruiged to see it. I must admit, I love dystopian type genres.
I read a lot of books. I mean a lot. I stayed hitched with that book for about 200 pages. It was sort of a combo of Fantasy Island, Survivor, and Logan’s Run. It really pisses me off when a book I have invested some time in turns out to stink. Hey!! I want my money back. Oh…wait, I borrowed it from the library.
I was thinking it just had to get better. Nope.

Right now (2230 CDT) Mars is high in the sky, very bright and very red. It is easy to spot. It won’t be this close to Earth again until April 2014.

The wife has an app that has an active compass and shows the positions off heavenly objects based on your location. It’s pretty sweet.

Last year in Memphis – May 7th I recall – I mentioned to those present that the Real Revo was going to have its one millionth visitor while we were there. At that point, we were three and a half years old.

Speaking of Kindles, I’m in the market for one. Anyone out there have personal experience with them, to enlighten me, a future-buyer of said Kindles? Anything I should know before buying?
I have been using the free Kindle software for my PC. Works good because I can sit far enough away from the screen that I don’t need my reading glasses. That is no small thing to me.
I didn’t know they had that. Pretty cool.

I love my Kindle. I dont have the Fire one, but I do have the touchscreen. Love it. I recommend. It is not a strain on the eyes at all. It’s not like reading on a computer screen, which makes my eyes go batshit after a while. Get one. You will be happy ya did.

I actually read paper books at my desk in my comfortable chair so reading on my computer screen is great.
I see fine beyond about three feet so I lean back and read. Paper books or on my wife’s iPad and I have to wear reading glasses.
I read constantly. I mean constantly. When my vision started going old man five years ago it was a disaster. I can’t read as long with glasses before I get a headache. Reading on a screen a few feet away is a God-send.
Down load the free software at Amazon and try it. It comes with a few books.
Uke, I have the Kindle keyboard, and I bought a Kindle Fire for my Dad. My first question for you would be if you only want to read books on it, or if you want to do more (browse the web, watch Netflix, etc). For reading only, the e-ink readers can’t be beat IMHO. It is more like reading a real book, and the battery life is measured in weeks not hours. I got my Kindle before the newer models came out. If I were buying now, I would go for the Kindle touch. Several books I have are reference books, and links work a lot better with a touch-screen interface.
That said, I am now in the market for a Fire. Amazon was selling refurb units for $139 the other day, but I was too slow to pull the trigger. I want it for web surfing from the couch mostly. Amazon is supposedly coming out with three new Fire models this year, so maybe I can get a good deal on an old model when that happens.

My house is full of thousands of books. I have no room to add new ones unless they are timeless. Then I will still buy the paper versions
I’m only interested in reading books on it. I already have an iPhone 4S, so I’m good with surfing, movies, YouTube, and that whole deal.
I just love the idea of having a small, light, handheld “book” that actually has thousands of books on it that I can download without going to a store for it. And I can read these books with that awesome eInk technology that makes it easy on the eyes.
One thing I think many of us have in common – reading is almost a compulsion. I read obsessively. Thats why I joined http://www.paperbackswap.com – I probably have a thousand books or more. Plastic sterilite tubs house a great many of them.
I am also a reader. I have an eclectic collection of hard and paperbacks. Titles as various as Encyclopedia of the Opera, A Confederacy of Dunces, Illustrated History of WWII(12 vol.) and Fahrenheit 451.
I started my working career as a book printer in the 60′s. Paper and Ink. Handset type. The pride of a private press. No government telling what you must print or what you must say. Our countries founding documents were printed on a private press. May there always be free and private presses.

I have first generation kindle, got my wife a 2 nd gen and a fire, we are both avid readers, and absolutely love em.
My K is used daily, it is especially nice to read in brite light by the pool with no glare or white page reflection, with a LED book light in total darkness.
If you go with amazon prime they have lending library which you can borrow one book a month, they also allow (dependant on author) reader to reader loan of books you buy.
If I ever decide to chuck it all and go native in a temperate climate I could download my entire library of purchased books onto the device and then use a little solar charger to keep me reading for ever.
I also use the kindle app on my Ipod which allows me to carry a book in my shirt pocket to read wherever I find myself killng a few minutes.
I dont carry my full size kindle daily unless I know I’m gonna be killing time doing something like sitting in a parking lot for a while.
My wife carries her fire daily, and leaves her kindle at home, the fire also allows innernet surfing with wireless internet at home or in wireless hotspots.
I have not purchased a hardback book since I got my kindle, my home library is already large enough, I’m gonna leave it to the local library when I check out.
Well, while we clearly have many readers here, we also have quality writers. Anyone interested in getting a Revo book together?

North Texas has two types of soil: Sand and clay. We can get a basement, but the necessary supports for it cost an arm and a leg.

I’m in Irving and the cell that produced 2 tornadoes in Arlington passed right over my office. Luckily, it was not feeling like spitting out a tornado at the time…but we got golf ball sized hail and strong winds for about a good 5-10 minutes. Glad I lent my car to my in-laws for a trip to Kansas this week and my wife was at home with our other one safely in the garage.
RD – older houses are deathtraps, but the newer ones (1980s and up) are generally built with a solid frame and a good interior room to take shelter in. But even that probably won’t do a whole lot of good in the direct path of a tornado. I hope I don’t ever have to find out.

We have a storm cellar in the floor of our garage. The entrance is between the cars, so it can be entered without going outside into the rain and hail. It will hold 8-12 people. 12 if they are friendly. We also use it to store some of our pockylips food and gear. We missed it all except for 5 drops of rain.
Iowans must really be pissed off!

Why it’s called a “work”book, I’m not sure.
My wife found a coloring book in my first grader’s backpack after school last week. I it was the Donna the Anti-Discriminatory Dolphin Fair Housing Coloring Book. It came from the local Civil Rights Commission. Donna explains to the kids why fair housing laws and diversity are important. Refusing to rent to puffer fish, for example, is wrong.
It isn’t clear to me why first graders need to be hectored on housing laws.
