  1. BrunDawg says:

So we have laws that make the Morning After pill available to girls who are not old enough to have consensual sex. Wouldn’t the pharmacy be obligated to report statutory rape and have the child-mother brought in for questioning? Couldn’t the pill be dispensed at the hospital after the rape kit is completed? You are not old enough to understand the consequences of intercourse but you are old enough to understand the consequences of abortion? We are a society of convenience.

    • Vanagram says:

Nah — they will get around the statutory rape thing by stating that two minors engaging in sex is not statutory rape (except in CA in which case BOTH minors are guilty of a sex crime by the mere act of having sex underage, whether consensual or not). In other words, only in California would the BrunDawg Rule be applicable across the board. (But fewer Californians would not necessarily be a bad thing in the long run).

      • Notamobster says:

In many states, consensual sex between two minors is considered stat-rape if the elder party is more than 2 years older.

Either way, the point is valid so far as being old enough to opt for a medical procedure resulting from sex, when you’re not even old enough to consent to sex…

        • Locke n Load says:

I hate to bring up an inconvenient little fact but I might as well. If you are opposed to Plan B because it ‘aborts’ a fertilized egg, well.. actually, you kinda have to be opposed to the pill as well. They both work the same way. Neither blocks fertilization. Both simply mimic a hormonal response that would allow implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterine wall. Its said that the hormones actually prevent the release of the egg but thats certainly not always the case.

Users of the pill are, by most ‘life at conception’ arguments, sometimes aborting a child. Plan B is acts like a megadose of the pill and affects exactly the same biological response.

Both are however, completely different from RU 486. That forces the shedding of the uterine lining and the implanted embryo with it.

Intellectual honesty/integrity is a bitch sometimes. I’ve never been against the pill really, but I can absolutely understand the Catholic Church’s argument against it.
          That is all

        • Locke n Load says:

None of that btw changes my belief that it should NOT be available OTC to minors. Both the pill and Plan B have the potential for adverse effects and without question should involve the advice of a medical professional.

          • fubar says:

the FDA does not have the authority to “release” a drug to a certain age group OTC while BCP are still prescription only.

I saw a UFO last night. I looked out my home office window and saw something strange so I went and looked. It was a glowing light slowly changing between orange, yellow and red. I called the kid out and he saw it too. It was moving very, very slowly to the west and appeared several thousand feet high. The kid and I ran back in to get binoculars and, when we got back out 30 or 40 seconds later, it was completely gone. At the rate it was moving, it should have only moved a tiny arc in the sky.

Don’t know what the hell it was.

  5. rj says:

I don’t believe orange is a normal color for conventional aircraft.

I saw some really weird stuff kinda like that over the Ohio river valley back in the late 60’s early 70’s

One craft I saw on bright full moon night moved directly over head on a slow flight, it was completely circular and back lighted clearly by the moon light, altitude was I’d guess way less than a commercial airliner, no noise, totally freaked me and the coon dogs out.

    • R.D. Walker says:

Well, the one thing I am certain it wasn’t was an alien spacecraft. It probably was some kind of airplane. There was some aspect of it, however, that made it very un-airplanelike.

I was doing some training this week at fort hood Tx. I was running a tower on the range and saw a SWAT officer from a neighboring city clear a lane of targets (appx 15) starting at about 15 yds staggered out to 175 meters in under 30 seconds with his pistol, in a standing two hand position, I was impressed as hell.

Spent a couple hours at the range this morning. Wanted to put some rounds through my new pistol.
I have come to one conclusion.
I REALLY need to practice more.
Now to be fair, this is my first and only pistol. And I’m far more comfortable (not to mention accurate) with one of my rifles.
    But I certainly had fun.

    • Uke says:

There’s never a need for handguns. Rifles all the way.

Except for when you don’t have a rifle.
Or the rifle runs out of ammo.
Or when your rifle is in your safe.
Or you’re in town and you aren’t carrying your rifle.
      Or your rifle is malfunctioning.
Or a BG has knocked the rifle out of your hands.

Otherwise, rifles are all you need, man.

So then… is the Serenity series as good as the movie? You’ve raved before…still agree its worth making an epic 9 hr marathon out of?

    • Greg B says:

      I’ll answer.

    • R.D. Walker says:

The production quality in the movie is better but the series is just as good. You are supposed to watch the series first, however. 🙂

      • Uke says:

Yes, absolutely watch the series first. The series is what hooks you, and the movie is a fantastic capstone.

Without the series, I can imagine you’d be lost as hell if you dive into the movie. Wouldn’t have any connection to the characters, inside jokes would be meaningless, etc.

    • Rockheim says:

100% absolutely. We’ve made more than one 9 hr epic marathon out of it.

The wife is the only one who had anything bad to say about it. And her complaint was why in Gods name did I show her such an awesome series that they went and cancelled?

Just planted about 10lbs of seed potatoes, red and Yukon gold, and I’m probably going to get some russets if i have any space left, after putting sweet potatoes in (hopefully the moles don’t eat them, again)

    found this:

    • Jim22 says:

Anybody got a good solution to moles or gophers?

      • R.D. Walker says:

The only thing that works every time on moles is the poison gummy worms. Moles won’t eat the poison pellets. They live on worms and grubs. I wonder, therefore, if it was voles or gophers that are eating the potatoes.

Gophers and voles will eat the pellets. You can also smoke them to death.

The gummy worms for moles are expensive as hell. I am working on my own formula. I will let you know how it works out.

        • BrunDawg says:

Uncle Buck can get rid of moles for a quarter.

        • Jim22 says:

We have a problem here with pocket gophers. I have caught a few in gopher traps and tried the smoke bombs and the pellets that come in a plastic cone.. Still have a problem. They ate all my beets last year – just the underground bulb, not the tops.

I found a new kind of trap the other day at the feed store. We’ll see how they work.

          • fubar says:

“They ate all my beets last year – just the underground bulb, not the tops.”

i can imagine your disappointment after pulling the beet-tops and finding them beetless. 🙁

at the moment we have a ginormous rat problem. the whole town does.
see, they let several large organic chicken houses go up on the outskirts of the borough and all that feed sitting around …
SO they won’t eat the poison, because they are bold enough to come out during the day and eat amongst the chickens.

someone said that letting some guinea pigs loose will make the rats move out. any comments on that?
(we’re responsible for increasing the rabbit population due to escaping pets. )

          • BrunDawg says:

When I lived in MN we had a big gopher problem. I used Victor Easy Set traps. It takes (a lot of) practice to get them set for a light trip. We used to tie a thin cable to them, push them down into the hole and stake the cable outside the hole. We took 4-5 every weekend. After a couple of years the field was clear. They eventually returned from the neighbors’ fields.

This guy has some advice against easy set due to the trigger challenge:

South Bristol Maine Boat School teaches the traditions of living on the coast, and gets schooled in the intolerance of the left.
Story and video from WGM13 in Maine:
“A centuries-old maritime tradition has been dropped from a local school ceremony. An interest group out of Washington D.C. threatened legal action if the South Bristol boat building program didn’t eliminate it’s Blessing of the Fleet at its end of the year boat launch.”
“The Washington, D.C.-based group threatened legal action if the school didn’t drop it’s Blessing of the Fleet. The blessing is the culmination of a year-long boat building program for eighth graders, but American’s United says it is a direct violation of the first amendment.”

    • R.D. Walker says:

I will never understand what drives these people. We have Revoistas who are nonbelievers but can you imagine any of them so strongly opposing the blessing of the fleet that they threaten legal action? It is unthinkable.

Jiggs McDonald, NHL Hall of Fame broadcaster speaking in Orillia, Ontario, says: I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in Toronto. I think it should be the goal of every Canadian to be tolerant regardless of their religious beliefs. Thus the mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque, thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque. We could call one of the clubs, which would be gay, “The Turban Cowboy,” and the other a topless bar called, “You Mecca Me Hot.” Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork, and adjacent to that an open-pit barbecue pork restaurant, called, “Iraq o’ Ribs.”

Across the street there could be a lingerie store called, “Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret,” with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods. Next door to the lingerie shop there would be room for an adult sex toy shop, “Koranal Knowledge,” its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side a liquor store called “Morehammered.”

All of this would encourage Muslims to demonstrate the tolerance they demand of us, so their mosque issue would not be a problem for others.”

So I broke down and bought five Powerball tickets last night. What are the odds of buying five tickets and not matching a single ball? That should be a prize in itself.

    • John Cox says:

The odds of not matching a single number on one ticket is about 61%. The odds of missing all of the numbers on five tickets depends on how many overlapping number you have. If there are no duplicate white balls or duplicate red balls, then you have only a 4.76% chance of missing all of them. Five quick picks should come in around 8.7%, I think.

President Obama used his weekly radio address on Saturday to reassure the American people that he has “played no role whatsoever” in the U.S. government over the past four years.

“Right now, many of you are angry at the government, and no one is angrier than I am,” he said. “Quite frankly, I am glad that I have had no involvement in such an organization.”

The President’s outrage only increased, he said, when he “recently became aware of a part of that government called the Department of Justice.”

“The more I learn about the activities of these individuals, the more certain I am that I would not want to be associated with them,” he said. “They sound like bad news.”

Mr. Obama closed his address by indicating that beginning next week he would enforce what he called a “zero tolerance policy on governing.”

“If I find that any members of my Administration have had any intimate knowledge of, or involvement in, the workings of the United States government, they will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
