So... about Photos...

I am one of those guys who recently got the shaft in the recent Photobucket debacle.

For those of you who have no clue what I am talking about...

in the beforetimes, the long long ago... many forums such as this didn't have the space to hold a lot of uploaded pics... so I got in the habit of uploading them to an image hosting site like Photobucket and then linking the photos in to a post such as this. It always worked well if I needed to... say... ask guys on a forum about a problem with my Russian Ural Motorcycle and show them a pic or something.

When I started my own Blog on blogger... I just kept on doing it that way... even though there was no real reason to... blogger can handle the direct uploading of the pics.. but I was used to my system and didn't change. Photobucket was free at the time and allowed up to 2GB of free storage.

...until June 28th of this year... when they changed their business model overnight from allowing you to imbed your pics in a forum or blog for free... to charging you $399 yearly.

Thousands of people.. millions and millions of images in thousands of blogs and forums overnight were replaced with a simple "Upgrade now" image in place of the images that were there the day before.

I actually wasn't hit as hard as many were... but I had ONE blog entry that had 260 images in it.  Now I am having to go download each image and re-upload them to blogger directly ...(which is where I should have put them in the first place.)

I don't blame photobucket for deciding that their prior business model was unsustainable. I would have been more than happy to pay them 20 bucks every month just to NOT have to redo that one blog post to get the pics back in it.... but not $399 a year auto-recurring. That is just crazy. Or it isn't.. time will tell... but it wasn't worth it to me in any case.

Anyway... so... on THIS site... if you are uploading pics etc, what kind of limits are we talking about?

(...and NO I have no intention of uploading 260 pics to it... )

But are there best practices as to image size if I wanted to load one or two? Are we dealing with unlimited cloud space or is there a size limit on the whole blog? What resolution would be best in a post like this?

Well, this isn't an image hosting site, that's for sure.  If it turns into one, I will have to limit it.

The idea is that you can share photos on the site with other Revoistas.  As long as traffic and posting stays where it is, we can handle it.

If things get out of control, we will talk.  But for now, share away.

It limits you to five photos to each post and 5MB per photo.  I guess it would be better if we didn't put huge photos on here.  After all, anything wider than about 1500 pixels can't really be seen all at once anyway.

I have been noticing lately that people can post a picture/meme with no text.  How do you do that?
